Nick Carter (athlete)
Ernest Nicholas Newton Carter (born September 4, 1902 in Globe, Arizona Territory – September 26, 1997 Santa Barbara, California) was an American track and field athlete, coach and official. He ran the 1500 metres in the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, finishing a non-qualifying 3rd place in his heat. Carter ran for Occidental College, finishing second in the Mile run at the NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 1925. He also finished third in the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships twice, in 1927 and 1928. Prior to Occidental, he ran for Lompoc High School, finishing second at the 1921 CIF California State Meet. Carter graduated from Occidental College in 1928 and then moved to the Claremont Graduate University. Following college, he took a job as the Olympic track coach for the Peruvian Olympic team. Globe, Arizona
Globe ( apw, Bésh Baa Gowąh "Place of Metal") is a city in Gila County, Arizona, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 7,249. The city is the county seat of Gila County. Globe was founded c. 1875 as a mining camp. Mining, tourism, government and retirees are most important in the present-day Globe economy. The Globe Downtown Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. Geography Globe is in southern Gila County at (33.399858, −110.781570), in the valley of Pinal Creek, a north-flowing tributary of the Salt River. USA Track & Field (USATF) is the United States national governing body for the sports of track and field, cross country running, road running and racewalking (known as the sport of athletics outside the US). The USATF was known between 1979 and 1992 as ''The Athletics Congress'' (TAC) after its spin off from the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), which governed the sport in the US through most of the 20th century until the Amateur Sports Act of 1978 dissolved its responsibility.
