Nicholas Meregali (born 27 May 1994) is a Brazilian submission grappler and Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) black belt competitor. A multiple time world, Pan, European and Brazilian champion at colored belts, Meregali is a 3x IBJJF black belt World Champion and a 2x ADCC World medallist. Early career Nicholas de Barcellos Meregali was born on 27 May 1994, in Santo Antônio in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Meregali began training when he was 16 years old at the ACJJ academy in Santo Antônio da Patrulha. At 17 he won the CBJJ Brazilian National Championship then joined Alliance Jiu Jitsu under Mario Reis in Porto Alegre. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu ranking system signifies a practitioner's increasing level of technical knowledge and practical skill within the art. Colored belts worn as part of the uniform are awarded to the practitioner. Roberto de Abreu Filho (commonly known as "Cyborg" Abreu) is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) competitor, academy owner and instructor. A 7-time World IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship, World No-Gi Champion, Abreu is known for his trademark ''Tornado Guard'' position which involves inverting underneath the opponent and elevating them into a sweep. Career Roberto de Abreu Filho grew up in rural Brazil and was affiliated with Nova Geracao. In 2000 Abreu was in a car accident and was left with 300 stitches on his left arm. The Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Pan American Championship (commonly known as Pan Ams or Pans), is the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament held in North America. The event is held annually by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. History Representing one of the first steps toward internationalisation of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the Pan-American Championship has been held annually since 1995. Yuri Simões (born June 18, 1990) is a Brazilian grappler, BJJ practitioner and mixed martial artist, signed with Singapore-based mixed martial arts promotion ONE Championship. He is a three time ADCC World Champion in three different weight divisions. Background Simões started training judo at the age of four, transitioning to Brazilian jiu-jitsu at the age of nine. Tye Ruotolo
Tye Ruotolo (born January 22, 2003) is an American submission grappler and black belt Brazilian jiu-jitsu athlete. A competitor with his twin brother Kade since the age of 3, Ruotolo is currently the youngest IBJJF World champion at black belt level in the history of the sport. At the 2019 ADCC World Championship, Ruotolo as a 16-year-old was the youngest competitor to participate in the competition and also to reach the semi-finals where he eventually came fourth place. Following promotion to black belt in December 2021, Ruotolo became a two division Who's Number One (WNO) champion, world champion at the 2022 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship and a bronze medalist at the 2022 ADCC World Championship. Openweight, also known as Absolute, is an unofficial weight class in combat sports and professional wrestling. It refers to bouts where there is no weight limit and fighters with a dramatic difference in size can compete against each other. It is different from catch weight, where competitors agree to weigh in at a certain amount without an official weight class. The 2022 ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship was a two-day no-gi submission grappling event that took place on 17-18 September 2022 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. John Danaher (martial Artist)
John Danaher (born April 2, 1967 in Washington, D.C., United States) is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts instructor and coach. He is widely regarded as one of the best instructors and coaches in these sports. Danaher holds a 6th-degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Renzo Gracie, and he is a former instructor at the Renzo Gracie Academy in Manhattan. Danaher grew up in New Zealand and arrived in the United States in 1991 to study at Columbia University's philosophy Ph.D. program. Guard (grappling)
The guard is a ground grappling position in which one combatant has their back to the ground while attempting to control the other combatant using their legs. In pure grappling combat sports, the guard is considered an advantageous position, because the bottom combatant can attack with various joint locks and chokeholds, while the top combatant's priority is the transition into a more dominant position, a process known as passing the guard.
