Nicaragua made its Paralympic Games début at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens. Its sole representative, wheelchair athlete Mario Madriz, entered two events in athletics. Nicaragua did not take part in the 2008 Summer Paralympics, 2008 Summer Games, and has never participated in the Winter Paralympics. The Paralympic Games or Paralympics, also known as the ''Games of the Paralympiad'', is a periodic series of international multisport events involving athletes with a range of physical disabilities, including impaired muscle power and impaired passive range of movement, limb deficiency, leg length difference, short stature, hypertonia, ataxia, athetosis, vision impairment and intellectual impairment. Mario Madriz
is a character created by Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. He is the title character of the ''Mario'' franchise and the mascot of Japanese video game company Nintendo. Mario has appeared in over 200 video games since his creation.
