Niagara IceDogs
The Niagara IceDogs are a major junior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey League based in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. The franchise was originally known as the Mississauga IceDogs and founded in 1996. The team was relocated to St. Catharines and played its inaugural season in the Niagara region during the 2007–08 OHL season after nine seasons in Mississauga. In 2022 the team was acquired by majority owner Darren DeDobbelaer and minority owner Wayne Gretzky. History Early years, 1998-2007 The Mississauga IceDogs inaugural season began in 1998–99, and the team struggled, winning only 4 of 68 games. In their first three seasons, the IceDogs won a total of 16 games, in 204 games played. The nine season tenure in Mississauga saw the IceDogs finish with a .301 win percentage in 612 regular season games and win one Central Division and Eastern Conference Championship. Ryan Edward Gaston Strome (born July 11, 1993) is a Canadian ice hockey centre for the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected fifth overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders and began playing with the team during their 2013–14 season. Previously, Strome played in the major junior level as a member of the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) before being traded to the Niagara IceDogs during his first season in the league. He is the brother of Washington Capitals forward Dylan Strome and Washington Capitals prospect Matthew Strome. Peterborough Petes
The Peterborough Petes are a junior ice hockey team in the Ontario Hockey League. The team has played at the Peterborough Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, since 1956, and is the oldest continuously operating team in the league. History The Petes were born on October 1, 1956 when the Kitchener Canucks relocated to Peterborough after the 1955–56 season. They would also become a sponsored junior team for the Montreal Canadiens of the NHL. The Petes played their first game on November 4, 1956, and won their first game on November 8, 1956. Akil Thomas
Akil Thomas (born January 2, 2000) is a Canadian-American professional ice hockey centre currently playing for the Ontario Reign in the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect to the Los Angeles Kings. Prior to the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Thomas was projected as a top eligible draft pick. He was eventually drafted in the second round, 51st overall, by the Los Angeles Kings. Thomas began his major junior hockey career with the Niagara IceDogs in 2016. Alexander Nedeljkovic ( ', born January 7, 1996) is an American professional ice hockey goaltender for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). Nedeljkovic was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round (37th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Mikkel Aagaard
Mikkel Aagaard (born 18 October 1995) is a Danish professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing with MoDo Hockey of the HockeyAllsvenskan (Allsv). Playing career Undrafted, Aagaard played in his native Denmark with Frederikshavn White Hawks before moving to North America to play major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the Niagara IceDogs and the Sudbury Wolves. Andrew Shaw (ice Hockey)
Andrew Shaw (born July 20, 1991) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He was selected by the Blackhawks in the fifth round (139th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. During his 10-season NHL career, Shaw played for the Blackhawks and the Montreal Canadiens. He is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Blackhawks (2013 and 2015). Freddie Hamilton
Frederick Hamilton (born January 1, 1992) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward. He played six seasons, split between the San Jose Sharks, Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames and Arizona Coyotes, and also played internationally for Canada. Hamilton comes from a talented sports family - his younger brother Dougie plays in the NHL for the New Jersey Devils, and their parents, Doug Hamilton and Lynn Hamilton (née Polson), are former Canadian Olympians. Brett Ritchie (born July 1, 1993) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who is currently playing for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). Gianluca Caputi (born October 1, 1988) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and current head coach with the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League.
