Ng Phek Hoong Irene
Irene Ng Phek Hoong (; born 24 December 1963) is a former Malaysian-born Singaporean politician who represented Tampines Group Representation Constituency from 2001 to 2015. She is also a Writer-in-Residence at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS). Education From 1969–1979, Ng studied at Primary Convent Primary and Convent Secondary in Bukit Mertajam, Penang. She attended Nanyang Junior College, Singapore for two years and then did her Bachelor of Arts & Social Science at the National University of Singapore, obtaining her degree in 1986. She obtained her M.Sc in International Relations at the London School of Economics & Political Science in 1998. The National Solidarity Party ( abbreviation: NSP) is a political party in Singapore. History Beginnings The NSP was founded by a group of middle-class businessmen and women on 6 March 1987. The founding president and secretary-general of the party were Kum Teng Hock and Soon Kia Seng respectively. Kum was a former member of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) while Soon was the ex-chairman of the Singapore Democratic Party. According to its 1995 manifesto, the main political objective of the NSP was to organise and maintain a democratic movement that would ensure the solidarity and establishment of a just political system and standard of living.
