Newtongrange Star Football Club is a Scottish football (soccer), football club based in the village of Newtongrange, Midlothian. The home ground is New Victoria Park. The facility includes an enclosed pitch with full floodlighting, covered enclosure, changing rooms, with a separate social club. The club also runs an actively used 7-a-side all-weather pitch, also floodlit. History Star reached the 1991 Scottish Junior Cup Final, before narrowly losing 1–0 to Auchinleck Talbot in an evenly matched contest. The Scottish Junior Football Association, SJFA restructured prior to the 2006–07 season, and Star found themselves in the 15-team Scottish Junior Football East Region South Division, East Region, South Division. Newtongrange
Newtongrange () is a former mining village in Midlothian, Scotland. Known in local dialect as ''Nitten'', or ''Nitten by the Bing'' (), it became Scotland's largest mining village in the 1890s, with the sinking of the Lady Victoria Colliery and a shaft over 1600 feet deep. This closed in 1981 but today houses the National Mining Museum, an Anchor Point of ERIH - The European Route of Industrial Heritage. History From its humble beginnings in 1843 with 100 souls, the church in Newtongrange grew to see its roll rise to over 1,000 in the 1950s. On 16 January 2003, the parishes of Newtongrange and Newbattle united to form a new Newbattle parish. Walter Kidd
Walter Kidd (born 10 March 1958) is a Scottish former professional football player, who played most of his career as right-back for Heart of Midlothian In total, he represented Hearts as a player for 15 years. Known for his tough tackling and his 'no nonsense' approach, he was affectionately nicknamed 'Zico' after the Brazilian footballing genius of that name. After leaving the club in 1991 to continue his playing career with Airdrieonians, he returned to Hearts as reserve team coach in 1993, remaining at the club until 1996 when he became assistant manager at Falkirk. He returned to Airdrie in 1999, where he worked until 2001. Since then he has worked as the youth team coach at Livingston. John Hughes (footballer Born 1964)
John "Yogi" Hughes (born 9 September 1964) is a Scottish professional football coach and former player. Hughes played primarily as a central defender for several clubs, including Falkirk (two spells), Celtic, Hibernian and Ayr United. Towards the end of his playing career, Hughes took on coaching responsibilities, and was appointed manager of Falkirk in 2003 (initially as co-manager with Owen Coyle). Hughes guided the club to promotion to the Scottish Premier League and a Scottish Cup Final during his time in charge. He eventually left Falkirk to take up the managerial role at Hibernian in 2009, but left by mutual consent after sixteen months. Hughes was appointed manager of Livingston in February 2012, but left in November to take over at English club Hartlepool United. Alex Young (footballer Born 1937)
Alexander Young (3 February 1937 – 27 February 2017) was a Scottish international footballer. He played as a creative forward for Heart of Midlothian and Everton. He won league championship and cup titles with both clubs where he was also a regular goal scorer. Young later played for Glentoran and Stockport County. Internationally he played for the Scottish League and the Scotland national football team. In football folklore he has become known as 'The Golden Vision'. Early years Young was born in Loanhead, Midlothian. He described himself as shy from an understandably over-watchful mother having to cope with the death of a son five years older than Alex being fatally hit by a car.
