Comfort Cove-Newstead is a small fishing community located outside Campbellton, on the east coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, (on the Bay of Exploits). It has a recently renovated town hall, a fire department, a corner store with post office, two churches, and other services including a fish processing plant and a vegetable farm. There are many services such as a playground, town hall, community center, fish plant, fire hall, local store, vegetable farm and more. The children in this town, along with those from Campbellton, Birchy Bay, Baytona, Loon Bay and Michaels Harbour attend a k-9 school in the Campbellton and high school in Lewisporte. There are about 248 private dwellings, in Comfort Cove-Newstead, covering a land area of about 29.83 square km. 2021 Canadian Census
The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. It follows the 2016 Canadian census, which recorded a population of 35,151,728. Lewisporte is a town in central Newfoundland, Canada, with a population of 3,288. It is situated in Burnt Bay which opens on to the Bay of Exploits. Lewisporte has a deep water port and related facilities that serve many communities in the region. History Settlers first arrived in Lewisporte, previously named Burnt Bay, and then Marshallville (after the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary William T Marshall who died in 1846), in 1887 and engaged in the prosperous fishing, logging, and ship building industries. Michael's Harbour, Newfoundland And Labrador
Michael's Harbour is a designated place in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is just outside Lewisporte. There are no stores or services and residents must commute to Lewisporte for essential services and Campbellton for education until the 9th grade. They commute to Lewisporte for high school. The community had a crisis in 2020 where a house burned down and it was determined that no fire department was obliged to provide services to the community. In February of the same year, the issue was resolved where the Lewisporte Fire Department agreed to provide service in exchange for fee per homeowner. Baytona
Baytona is a small rural community found in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is situated off of Route 340, which runs from Lewisporte to Twillingate island, aptly named "Road to the Isles". A bay separates Baytona from a neighboring town called Birchy Bay. The first settlers of Baytona were fishermen, with women mainly staying home to raise children; however, with a depletion in cod stocks and lobsters, there was a shift away from the fishing industry. Baytona has a fire department, town council and a recreation committee. There is currently one running convenience store. The community has a playground, and a basketball court. The town also has an Anglican and a Pentecostal church. Birchy Bay
Birchy Bay is a small community found in Notre Dame Bay in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. History The name Birchy Bay is derived from the many birch trees which were found on its shores many years ago. Birchy Bay was first home to the native people of the Island which would have used the river which flows through the community as a source of fresh water and also to procure salmon and trout. Tradition shows that there was a European fisherman shot at but not killed by a Beothuk man who used a decoy to lure the man within shot. The local lookout as known today was also recorded to have been used by the Beothuk and a large pine tree which grew at its summit was relieved of all its bark from the natives climbing to watch over the surrounding land.
