Route 63, also known as Avondale Access Road, is a short north-south highway that connects the town of Avondale, Newfoundland and Labrador to the Trans Canada Highway. Route description Route 63 begins at an interchange with Route 1 (Trans Canada Highway, Exit 34). It heads northeast to pass by Eastbound International Speedway before winding its way through wooded areas for a few kilometres. The highway continues north to pass through neighbourhoods before entering downtown, where Route 63 comes to an end along the coastline at an intersection with Route 60 (Conception Bay Highway). Avondale, Newfoundland And Labrador
Avondale is a town located on Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The community is situated at the southwestern head of Conception Bay in Division 1. It is located southwest of St. John's and northeast of Placentia. Prior to January 1, 1898 Avondale was known as Salmon Cove but was renamed to avoid confusion with two other nearby communities of the same name in the Port de Grave and Brigus Districts. The name Avondale was suggested by the parish priest Rev John Roe because of the resemblance to his native area in Ireland, taking the name from Thomas Moore's poem, "The Meeting of the Waters". Earliest record of settlement per Fishing Room Grants is for John Mahaney in 1773, a census of 1812 reports 12 inhabitants. Settlers to the area were primarily Irish Roman Catholic with a smaller number of Jersey French and English. Route 1 is a highway in the Canada province of Newfoundland and Labrador, and is the easternmost stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway. Route 1 is the primary east–west road on the island of Newfoundland. The eastern terminus of Route 1 is St. John's. From there, the highway crosses the island to Channel-Port aux Basques, its western terminus. Route 60, also known as Topsail Road in Mount Pearl and St. Johns, and as Conception Bay Highway for the rest of its length, is a east-west highway on the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland. It runs between the town of Cupids and the city of St. John's. Route description Route 60 begins as Topsail Road at the west end of Water Street in downtown St. John's, where the road divides into Topsail Road and Waterford Bridge Road. It continues on through the west end of St. John's, then through the northern part of the city of Mount Pearl. After the overpass of Kenmount Road, the road passes through the towns of Paradise, Topsail, and Chamberlains.
