Cupids Crossing, Newfoundland And Labrador
Cupids is a town of 699 people (per the 2021 Census) on Conception Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It has also been known as Coopers, Copers Cove, Cupers Cove, and Cuperts. It is the oldest continuously settled official British colony in Canada. Cupids is believed to be the site of the first child born of European parents in the country. The town was established by Englishman John Guy in 1610. In November 2009, the community was visited by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall. In August 2010, the community was visited by many people from around the world to celebrate the Cupids 400th anniversary, including Canadian Governor General Michaëlle Jean. Tely 10 Mile Road Race
The Tely 10 Mile Road Race (generally known as the ''Tely 10'') is a 10 mile road race held in the communities of Paradise, Mount Pearl and St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada that attracts over 4000 runners annually. The race course often gets mistaken as 10 km. The race began in 1922 making it one of the oldest road races in all of Canada. The race was not run from 1940 to 1945 because of World War II; thus, the 2019 race was the 92nd in the event's history. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person 2020 edition was also cancelled, and the 2021 event was held on October 31st. Course record holders are Paul McCloy (47:04 in 1985) and Anne Johnston (54:25 in 2019). The race is held every fourth Sunday in July. Conception Bay (CB) is a bay on the southeast coast of Newfoundland, Canada. The population (in 2011) of people living in municipalities (or unincorporated census subdivisions) located along the coast of Conception Bay was 90,490 making it one of the most densely populated areas of the province. Conception Bay is adjacent to the St. John's Metropolitan Area which contains 5 of the 10 largest settlements in the province and is home to over 200,000 people. The smaller communities in Newfoundland may often be referenced by the Bay in which they are located, e.g.: 'Port de Grave, CB'.
