Route 513, also known as St. Lewis Highway, is a east–west highway in southeastern Labrador in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It connects the town of St. Lewis with the Trans-Labrador Highway ( Route 510). Route 513 passes through remote wooded terrain for its entire length, with no other major intersections or communities along the entire highway. The road is unpaved. Route description Route 513 begins at an intersection with Trans-Labrador Highway ( Route 510) along the banks of the Alexis River, just north of that highway's crossing over the river. It heads eastward as an unpaved gravel road through remote wooded terrain for several kilometres to enter the town limits and immediately passes by the former Fox Harbour Air Station. Mary's Harbour, Newfoundland And Labrador
Mary's Harbour is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The town had a population of 312 in the Canada 2021 Census, down from 341 in the Canada 2016 Census. It is serviced by Mary's Harbour Airport. Mary's Harbour surrounds the St. Mary's River, which was the site of a salmon fishery as early as the 1780s. However, Mary's Harbour was not a permanent settlement until after a fire at Battle Harbour in 1930. The International Grenfell Association decided to relocate its hospital and boarding school, destroyed by the fire, from Battle Harbour to Mary's Harbour. Mary's Harbour has always depended on the fishery for its livelihood. Since the Collapse of the Atlantic northwest cod fishery the community has thrived on the crab fishery. Fox Harbour Air Station (ADC ID: N-27C) was a General Surveillance Gap Filler Radar station in St. Lewis in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, It was located southeast of CFB Goose Bay. It was closed in 1961. History The site was established in 1957 as a manned Gap Filler radar station, built by the United States Air Force, under operational control of Cartwright Air Station and part of the Pinetree Line of Ground-Control Intercept (GCI) radar sites. Charlottetown, Labrador
Charlottetown is a town in Labrador with a population of 292 ( 2021 census) in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It was said to be founded by Benjamin Powell in 1950 and named for Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island: "I thought that maybe someday the place would be the capital of the bay, the same way Charlottetown is the capital of Prince Edward Island." Situated on the sheltered inlet St. Michaels Bay on the Labrador coast, Charlottetown was served by a coastal ferry service until the completion of the Trans-Labrador Highway in 2002 (now Route 514).
