Baie Verte ( 2021 Population 1,311) is a town located on the north coast of the island portion of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador on the Baie Verte Peninsula. The French named the area for its greenness, "green bay." Geography Baie Verte is one of 42 communities that make up the Emerald Zone which is located in the North Central portion of Newfoundland. Baie Verte dates to the late 19th century, but remained a small village until the discovery of asbestos and other ore bodies of copper, lead, zinc and gold in the mid-1950s when the town underwent major expansion. Bowering Brother's steamers called in the area in the 1950s to transport the ore found here. It became a town in 1968. The Baie Verte Peninsula is a large peninsula on the north central coast of the island of Newfoundland in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Baie Verte Peninsula is a geologically complex area on the northwest coast of Newfoundland. The region is composed of multiple geological domains and has undergone extensive tectonic activity, uplift, and deformation, producing multiple unconformity surfaces. In addition, multiple phases of intrusion, some with volcanic cover sequences, add to the complexity of the geological model. Route 410, also known as Dorset Trail, is an north-south highway on the northern coast of Newfoundland in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It leads from Sheppardville, at Route 1 (Trans-Canada Highway), to a dead end in Fleur de Lys, Newfoundland and Labrador. Route 410 serves as the primary roadway access on-and-off the Baie Verte Peninsula. Baie Verte is the most populous community along the route. Burlington is an incorporated town in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is a small fishing and lumbering community on Route 413 at the north side of the mouth of Green Bay. Burlington is located approximately 40 km from Baie Verte. History Burlington was once named Northwest Arm, and was permanently settled in the mid-19th century. The community was renamed in the early part of 1915 due to a mix-up in the mail service. After many residents complained that their mail was sent to another community with a similar name, the town leaders felt the need to have a name change. Out of three separate entries, 'Burlington' was chosen. There was no large industry in the 19th century. The early settlers fished for cod and cleared land to grow potatoes, cabbage and small fruits.
