Newborough, Cambridgeshire
Newborough is a village and a civil parish in the Peterborough district, in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire, England. Newborough is situated 7.62 km (4.74 mi) north of Peterborough. Newborough has a population of 1,670 according to the 2011 census Newborough is located along the B1443 and is a short distance away from the A16. History Newborough means ‘new fortification’ in old English. Newborough was part of the Borough Fen, which was formed into a new parish in 1822. The land has been much improved by draining, and is now principally arable. During the Saxon and Medieval periods Borough Fen lay underwater. In the 17th century, a Dutch engineer, Cornelius Vermuyden, began to drain the fenland. One of the earliest dykes cut was the Highland Drain, which runs parallel to the Thorney Road. Newborough, Staffordshire
Newborough is a village and civil parish in the county of Staffordshire, England. It is located south west of Hanbury and west of Burton-upon-Trent. Newborough has a pub, a school and a church. At the 2011 UK census, the population stood at 476, comprising 240 males and 236 females. Newborough is part of the Yoxall ward of East Staffordshire. The Village The local church is dedicated to All Saints. The current building was consecrated in 1901, after being built by the architect John Oldrid Scott. Originally built on the site of a pub, it was built using stone from Hollington, Pateley Bridge and Harrogate. The Church is a Grade 2 Listed Building, after being listed on 12 January 1966, and given its English Heritage Building ID of 273885. The village originally had three public houses in the village: The White Hart, The Buffalo and The Red Lion, although it had many more alehouses. Newborough, Victoria
Newborough is a town in the Latrobe Valley in Victoria, Australia which shares a border to its west, mostly along the Narracan Creek, with the town of Moe. It can be divided into three areas, Old Newborough, East Newborough and North Newborough. The latter two areas were developed by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria in the 1950s as residential housing for workers at the nearby Yallourn coal mining, power generation and briquette making works. Newborough now has a higher than average proportion of retirees and aged residents, and it has been suggested that it owes its generally quiet character to this fact. At the , Newborough had a population of 6,763. Newborough Post Office opened on 1 October 1942 and Newborough East Post Office opened on 1 March 1951. Baron Newborough
Baron Newborough is a title that has been created twice in the Peerage of Ireland. Both titles are extant. The first creation came in 1716 in favour of George Cholmondeley, later 2nd Earl of Cholmondeley. See Marquess of Cholmondeley for further history of this creation. The second creation came in 1776 in favour of Sir Thomas Wynn, 3rd Baronet. He represented Caernarvonshire, St Ives and Beaumaris in the House of Commons and also served as Lord Lieutenant of Caernarvonshire. His son, the second Baron, represented Caernarvonshire in Parliament. He died unmarried and was succeeded by his younger brother, the third Baron. He served as High Sheriff of Anglesey in 1847. On his death the titles passed to his grandson, the fourth Baron (the son of the Hon. Thomas John Wynn). He died as a result of an illness contracted on active service during the First World War and was succeeded by his younger brother, the fifth Baron.
