Duane Kale
Duane Paul Kale (born 1 September 1967) is a New Zealand Paralympic swimmer who won four gold medals, along with a silver and a bronze, at the 1996 Summer Paralympics. He was also the Chef de Mission for the New Zealand Paralympic Team at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Paralympics. Aaron Bidois
Aaron Bidois is a paralympic swimmer from New Zealand competing mainly in category SB6 events. Bidois competed in two Paralympics, firstly in 1992 and then again in 1996. In 1992 he left medalless after finishing fourth in the heat of the 100m backstroke, fifth in the final of the breaststroke, fifth in his heat of the 100m freestyle, 200m medley and 50m freestyle. In 1996 he was seventeenth in the 50m freestyle heats, fifteenth in the 100m freestyle heats, fourth in the 200m medley final and won a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke. David MacCalman
David Francis MacCalman (born 30 September 1958) is a Paralympian athlete from New Zealand competing mainly in category P53 pentathlon events. He lost the use of his legs after sustaining a spinal cord injury while diving into a river. He competed in the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona, Spain. Jennifer Frances Newstead (born ) is a former paralympic swimmer from New Zealand who competed mainly in category S5 events. She won a total of 10 Paralympic medals, including seven gold medals, and broke 37 world records in her career. Career Newstead was part of the New Zealand swimming team at both the 1992 and 1996 Summer Paralympics winning a total of 10 medals, seven of them gold. She was coached by Duncan Laing. Swimming at the 1996 Summer Paralympics consisted of 168 events, 87 for men and 81 for women. Because of a tie in the men's 100 m freestyle S4 event, a total of 169 bronze medals were awarded. The 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta were the first ones where swimming was fully integrated based on functional disability, with classification no longer separated into classes based on the four disability types of vision impaired, cerebral palsy, amputee, and wheelchair sport. Peter Martin (athlete)
Peter Raymon Martin (born 23 February 1962) is a Paralympian athlete from New Zealand competing in seated throwing events. He is a farmer, and became quadriplegic after sustaining a spinal injury in a farm bike accident. He competes in the F52 classification. Biography Martin won the shot put in the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Paralympics. He also won the javelin in 2004 and a silver in 1996. Other events he has medalled in are the 2000 Pentathlon and the 2004 discus throw, making 2004 his most successful year with two gold medals and one bronze. He made a comeback for the 2012 Summer Paralympics; he reached finals but did not medal in his shot put and javelin events. Immediately prior to these games, he inadvertently took a banned substance for medical reasons. He was reprimanded but cleared to compete.
