New Zealand Women Of Influence Award
The New Zealand Women of Influence Awards are an annual set of awards which recognise women who make a difference to everyday New Zealanders' lives. The Awards were first made in 2013 and were initially sponsored by Westpac Bank. In 2016, Stuff NZ became a joint sponsor. Nominations are invited from the public. A panel selects finalists in each category, who are invited to an awards dinner at the Aotea Centre in Auckland where the recipients are announced. In 2021 the awards dinner was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Categories The Awards were initially presented in seven categories; additional categories have since been introduced and as of 2020 the Awards are made in ten categories: Board and Management, Business Enterprise, Innovation and Science, Young Leader, Arts and Culture, Public Policy, Community and Not-for-profit, Diversity, Global and Rural. Tapu Misa
Tapu Misa is a Samoan-born New Zealand journalist specialising in Pacific Islands affairs. She is considered New Zealand's first Pasifika woman journalist. Biography Misa was born in Samoa and raised in Wellington. She studied journalism on a course taught by Gary Wilson at Waiariki Institute of Technology aimed specifically at encouraging Māori and Pacific people into journalism. She and Wilson later worked together to establish the course in Manukau, Auckland. She has written for ''The New Zealand Herald,'' magazines ''More'' (now ''Next''), '' North & South'' and ''Mana.'' She has also worked in radio, for National Radio. She was a member of the New Zealand Broadcasting Standards Authority for eight years. Jennifer Ward-Lealand
' Jennifer Cecily Ward-Lealand (born 8 November 1962) is a New Zealand theatre and film actor, director, teacher and intimacy coordinator. She has worked for 40 years, appearing in over 120 theatre performances: Greek, Shakespeare, drama, comedy, devised, and musical theatre. Her screen credits include the 1993 movie Desperate Remedies as well as appearances in The Footstep Man, the soap Shortland Street and Australian comedy series Full Frontal. Jane Harding
Dame Jane Elizabeth Harding (born 1955) is a New Zealand academic new-born intensive case specialist (neonatologist). She was awarded the Rutherford Medal in 2019. Education and career Harding studied at the University of Auckland, graduating in 1978, and in 1982 obtained a DPhil in foetal physiology from the University of Oxford. She returned to in New Zealand for paediatric training then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. Following that, she worked at the University of Auckland's faculty of Medicine from 1989, becoming Professor of Neonatology in 1997. Ranjna Patel is the founder of the Gandhi Nivas family violence prevention programme in New Zealand. Work Patel founded the Gandhi Nivas family violence prevention programme in 2014. The programme partners with Counties Manukau Police and Sahaayta Counseling and Social Support to deliver services to New Zealand men considered at risk of committing domestic violence, to support them to change their behaviour. The "ground-breaking" programme removes men from the family home and places them in specially-run homes in order to support them to understand and change their behaviour. Una Jagose is a lawyer and King's Counsel from New Zealand. Jagose was born and raised in Cambridge, New Zealand. Her parents were both medical professionals who had emigrated to New Zealand: her father was a Parsi doctor from India and her mother a nurse from Ireland.
