New York Saints
The New York Saints are a former member of the National Lacrosse League. They played at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, from 1989 to 2003. They became an inactive team after the 2002–03 season and were officially defunct in 2006. Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum (or simply the Nassau Coliseum) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Uniondale, New York, east of New York City. The Long Island venue is approximately east of the eastern limits of the New York City Borough of Queens, and is also next to the Meadowbrook Parkway. Opened in 1972, the Coliseum occupies of Mitchel Field, a former Army airfield, later an Air Force base. The facility is in the Town of Hempstead, within the Uniondale 11553 ZIP code. The Coliseum is used for sporting events, concerts, large exhibitions and shows as well as trade shows— at the main arena, 60,000 at the Expo Center. In 2015, the arena was closed for a major renovation which was completed in April 2017. The New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL) played at the Coliseum from 1972 to 2015 before moving to Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Pat McCabe (lacrosse)
Patrick "Pat" J. McCabe (born April 15, 1969) is a retired professional lacrosse player from the United States. In 2006, McCabe was elected to the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame. College career McCabe attended Syracuse University, where he was named All-American four times, including three times to the first team. Pat was also presented with the Schmeisser Award as the nations most outstanding defensive player in 1990. McCabe won three NCAA Championships at Syracuse. Professional career McCabe played defense for the Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse from the 2001 season until he retired following the 2006 season. He also played 11 seasons for the New York Saints of the National Lacrosse League (1992–2002), and was chosen to play on Team USA at the 2002 Heritage Cup. The 2002 National Lacrosse League season is the 16th season in the NLL. Sal LoCascio
Sal LoCascio (born April 6, 1967) is an American former professional lacrosse goaltender and coach who played the majority of his career for the New York Saints of the National Lacrosse League. He also played one season with the Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse, and later served as the head coach of the MLL’s Bridgeport/Philadelphia Barrage LoCascio is one of the few lacrosse players, and one of the only goaltenders to achieve success in both box and field lacrosse. Today, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest lacrosse goaltenders of all time. 2001 NLL Season
The 2001 National Lacrosse League season is the 15th season in the NLL that began on December 21, 2000 and concluded with the championship game on April 27, 2001. The Philadelphia Wings won their 6th NLL championship, defeating the Toronto Rock 9-8 in Toronto. Philadelphia had now won twice as many championships as any other team in NLL history (the Buffalo Bandits had won three, and the Rock two). The Championship game was one of only two games (out of ten) the Rock lost at home during the 2001 season, and ended Toronto's bid for an unprecedented third straight Championship. The NLL expanded its schedule from 12 games to 14 during this season. The 1999 National Lacrosse League season is the 13th season in the NLL that began on December 26, 1998, and concluded with the championship game on April 23, 1999. The Toronto Rock celebrated their first season in Toronto by winning the championship, defeating the Rochester Knighthawks 13-10 at Maple Leaf Gardens. 1998 NLL Season
Before the 1998 season, the Major Indoor Lacrosse League was renamed to be the National Lacrosse League, in the process increasing the length of the regular season from ten to twelve games. The first season as the NLL and the 12th season overall, began on January 3, 1998, and concluded with the second championship game on April 28. The championship was decided by a best-two-of-three series, with the Philadelphia Wings defeating the Baltimore Thunder 16-12 in the first game and 17-12 in the second.
