New York City's 16th City Council district is one of 51 districts in the New York City Council. It is currently represented by Democrat Althea Stevens, who took office in 2022. Geography District 16 covers a series of neighborhoods in the South Bronx, including parts of Concourse, Morrisania, Highbridge, Morris Heights, and Tremont. Yankee Stadium is located within the district. The district overlaps with Bronx Community Boards 3, 4, and 5, and is contained almost entirely within New York's 15th congressional district, with a small extension into the 13th district. Community Boards Of New York City
The community boards of the New York City government are the appointed advisory groups of the community districts of the five boroughs. There are currently 59 community districts: twelve in the Bronx, eighteen in Brooklyn, twelve in Manhattan, fourteen in Queens, and three in Staten Island. They advise on land use and zoning, participate in the city budget process, and address service delivery in their district. Regarding land use they are only advisory and mostly serve as mobilizing institutions for communities opposed to specific projects. The City Charter also allows boards to submit their own plans for the development, growth, and improvement of their communities. Community boards each have up to 50 volunteer members appointed by the local borough president, half from nominations by City Council members representing the community district (''i.e.'', whose council districts cover part of the community district). 2021 New York City Council Election
The 2021 New York City Council election were held on November 2, 2021. The primary elections were held on June 22, 2021. There were several special elections for seats vacated in 2020 and early 2021; these special elections were the first to use ranked-choice voting in city council elections after it was approved by a ballot question in 2019. Due to redistricting after the 2020 Census, candidates also ran for two-year terms instead of four-year terms for the first time, stemming from the New York City Charter overhaul in 1989. Four-year terms will resume in the 2025 election after another two-year election in 2023. Instant-runoff voting (IRV) is a type of Ranked voting, ranked preferential Electoral system, voting method. New York's 15th congressional district is a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives located in New York City, State of New York. The district has been represented by Democrat Ritchie Torres since 2021. The 15th district is located entirely within the Bronx, namely the southern portion of the West Bronx as well as the South Bronx.
