New York's 47th State Assembly district is one of the 150 districts in the New York State Assembly. It has been represented by Democrat William Colton since 1997. Geography District 47 is in Brooklyn. It comprises Bath Beach, Bensonhurst, Gravesend, Dyker Heights and portions of Midwood. William Colton
William Colton (born March 6, 1946) is an American politician who represents District 47 in the New York State Assembly, which comprises Bath Beach, Bensonhurst, Gravesend, Dyker Heights and Midwood. First elected to the Assembly in 1996, Colton currently serves as Majority Whip. He sits on the Correction, Environmental Conservation, Governmental Employees, Labor, Rules, and Ways and Means committees and is a member of the Asian Pacific American Task Force. He has previously served as chair and Vice Chair of the Majority Conference and as Chair of the Legislative Commission on Solid Waste Management. According to his self-published biography, Colton is a lifelong resident of the district. New York City's 47th City Council district is one of 51 districts in the New York City Council. It has been represented by Republican Party (United States), Republican Ari Kagan since 2022; Kagan succeeded Mark Treyger, who could not run again in 2021 New York City Council election, 2021 due to term limits. Kirsten Gillibrand
Kirsten Elizabeth Gillibrand (; ; born December 9, 1966) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the junior United States senator from New York since 2009. A member of the Democratic Party, she served as member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2009. Born and raised in upstate New York, Gillibrand graduated from Dartmouth College and from the UCLA School of Law. After holding positions in government and private practice and working on Hillary Clinton's 2000 U.S. Senate campaign, Gillibrand was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2006.
