New Hong Kong Alliance
The New Hong Kong Alliance (, abbreviated 新港盟; NHKA) was a pro-Beijing conservative political organisation in Hong Kong in the 1990s mostly composed of businessmen and professionals. It was considered the more conservative wing of the Group of 89 formed by established elites in the debate of drafting the Hong Kong Basic Law and democratisation. It proposed the ultra-conservative Bicameral Model for the future political structure. The alliance's key person was secretary Lo Tak-shing who had an eye on the Chief Executive post after 1997, the alliance became less active as Lo's chance of contesting the post got slimmer and it ceased to exist in 1999. Wai Kee-shun
Wai Kee-shun, SBS (; born 1933) is a Hong Kong businessman, publisher and retired sports commentator. Biography Wai was born into a well-off family which owned a medicine company in 1933. He was educated at the New Method College and left for the United States to further his studies in early 1951. After he returned to Hong Kong in 1956, Wai helped his brother to establish ''Tin Tin Daily News'', in which he was the president from 1960 to 1977. He had been a sports commentator for many years, commentating boxing among other sports for TVB and Cable TV. He had also been chairman of the various sports associations in the 1960s and 1970s, Hong Kong Boxing Association, Hong Kong Table Tennis Association, Tung Wah Sports Association, and vice-president of Hong Kong Football Association. Maria Tam Wai-chu
Maria Tam Wai-chu (; born 2 November 1945) is a senior Hong Kong politician and lawyer. She is a member of the Committee for the Basic Law of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC) since 1997 and the chairman of the Operations Review Committee of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) since 2015. As a successful politician early on, Tam was a member of the four different levels of representative councils, Executive Council, Legislative Council, Urban Council and Central and Western District Board in colonial Hong Kong in the 1980s. Vincent Lo Hong-shui
Vincent Lo Hong-shui, GBM, GBS, JP (; born 18 April 1948) is the chairman of Hong Kong-based Shui On Group, a building-materials and construction firm. He graduated from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 1969. Upon returning to Hong Kong, started business with the sum of HK$100,000 (US$16,700) borrowed from his father, Hong Kong property tycoon Lo Ying-shek. In 1984, Lo began investing in Shanghai and built a hotel in partnership with the Shanghainese Communist Youth League. The 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre caused occupancy to plunge, and the league could not repay its construction loan. Pao Ping-wing, JP (; born 1948) is a Hong Kong businessman and politician. He was an elected member of the Urban Council of Hong Kong and member of the Kowloon City District Board. Early life Pao was born in Hong Kong. Education Pao graduated from the Hong Kong College. Pao earned a Master of Science Degree in Human Settlements Planning and Development from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand in April 1980. Urban Council Of Hong Kong
The Urban Council (UrbCo) was a municipal council in Hong Kong responsible for municipal services on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon (including New Kowloon). These services were provided by the council's executive arm, the Urban Services Department. Later, the equivalent body for the New Territories was the Regional Council. The council was founded as the Sanitary Board in 1883. It was renamed the Urban Council when new legislation was passed in 1936 expanding its mandate. In 1973 the council was reorganised under non-government control and became financially autonomous. Leung Chun-ying (; born 12 August 1954), also known as CY Leung, is a Hong Kong politician and chartered surveyor, who has served as vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference since March 2017. He was previously the third Chief Executive of Hong Kong between 2012 and 2017. Elsie Leung Oi-sie, Grand Bauhinia Medal, GBM, Justice of the Peace, JP (; born 24 April 1939) is a Hong Kong politician and solicitor. She was Secretary for Justice (Hong Kong), Secretary for Justice of Hong Kong from 1997 to 2005 and a member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong. Early life and education Leung was born in Hong Kong to a family originating from Nanhai region, Foshan, China. Dr. Tso Wung-wai (; born 28 February 1941), BBS is a Hong Kong politician and chemistry professor. He is an adjunct professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and has also served as a Hong Kong delegate to the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China. Henry Litton
Henry Denis Litton CBE, GBM ( Chinese transliteration: 烈顯倫; born 7 August 1934) is a retired judge in Hong Kong. Early life and education Born into a Eurasian family in Hong Kong, Henry Litton excelled in school during his early years first at the Diocesan Boys' School in Hong Kong and then in England which he was educated at King's College, Taunton and Merton College, Oxford, where he graduated with honours in jurisprudence. His father, John Letablere Litton (1903–1941), served as a gunner in the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps. Peter Wong Hong-yuen, GBS, OBE, JP (born 25 April 1944, Shanghai) was a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (1988–95). He was President of the Hong Kong Society of Accountants from 1984 to 1985 and was elected Legislative Councillor to represent the accountancy functional constituency from 1988 to 1995. Dr. Philip Kwok Chi-kuen, SBS, JP (; born 6 December 1938) is a Hong Kong businessman and politician. Biography Kwok was born on 6 December 1938 to Kwok Lam-po and Sylvia Li Yuet-sheung. His grandfather, Kwok Chuen, was the founder of the Wing On Company, one of the major Chinese department stores, while his mother, Sylvia Li, was the daughter of Li Shek-pang, the founder of the Li family, one of the four big families of Hong Kong.
