New Haven And Derby Railroad
The New Haven and Derby Railroad (NH&D) was a railroad that connected the city of New Haven, Connecticut, with the town of Derby. The railroad was built between 1868 and 1871, when it began operations. The company was created by the city of New Haven, which owned it until 1889 when it was sold to the Housatonic Railroad. The Housatonic in turn was purchased by the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad in 1892. Passenger service existed between New Haven and Derby Junction until 1925 when it was discontinued. The majority of the line was abandoned by the New Haven Railroad between 1939 and 1941. As of 2022, of track between Derby and Ansonia are the only remaining portion of the New Haven and Derby Railroad in service. Housatonic Railroad
The Housatonic Railroad ( ) is a Class III railroad operating in southwestern New England and eastern New York. It was chartered in 1983 to operate a short section of ex-New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad in northwestern Connecticut, and has since expanded north and south, as well as west into New York State. The Housatonic Railroad was also a company chartered in 1836 and leased by the New Haven in 1892. It followed much the same route as the current company, but did not run west into New York. The Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) was a regulatory agency in the United States created by the Interstate Commerce Act of 1887. The agency's original purpose was to regulate railroads (and later trucking) to ensure fair rates, to eliminate rate discrimination, and to regulate other aspects of common carriers, including interstate bus lines and telephone companies. Ansonia station is a commuter rail station on the Waterbury Branch of the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line, located in Ansonia, Connecticut. New Haven And Northampton Company
The New Haven and Northampton Railroad (founded as the New Haven and Northampton Company, also known as the Canal Line) was a railroad originally built alongside a canal between 1847 and 1850 in Connecticut. Leased by the New York and New Haven Railroad from 1849 to 1869, the railroad expanded northwards to Massachusetts and its second namesake city in 1859. Upon the end of the lease in 1869, the company expanded further into Massachusetts, reaching as far north as Shelburne and Turners Falls.
