New Faces (Australian Talent Show)
''New Faces'' was an Australian talent show that preceded the British show of the same name, produced at GTV-9 Melbourne. The program began in 1963 under the name ''Kevin Dennis Auditions'', sponsored by the new car dealership, Kevin Dennis Motors, which was run by Kevin Dennis ( Dennis Gowing), who was also a well known face on Australian TV from his catchy 'Update' TV Commercials in the 1960s–70s, which were featured during the breaks of the popular show. The program ran on Saturday mornings. The program name soon changed to ''Kevin Dennis New Faces'', and later simply ''New Faces'', becoming a Sunday night prime time show. The program began as a vehicle for rags-to-riches Melbourne businessman, Kevin Dennis, to promote his business. A talent show is an event in which participants perform the arts of singing, dancing, lip-syncing, acting, martial arts, playing an instrument, poetry, comedy or other activities to showcase skills. Julia Morris
Julia Carolyn Margaret Morris (born 20 April 1968) is an Australian comedian, television presenter and actress who has worked extensively in Australian television and radio, touring the country with her solo comedy shows. She relocated to the United Kingdom in 2000, appearing on British television, then returned to Australia in 2007. She lived on the Central Coast for her childhood. Personal life Morris was educated at St Patrick's Catholic Primary School, St Joseph's Catholic College, East Gosford, Santa Sabina College, Strathfield, and the Ensemble Theatre School. SAS (TV Station)
SAS, formerly SAS-7 and before that SAS-10, is a television station in Adelaide, South Australia. It is part of the Seven Network. History SAS-7 was originally known as SAS-10, an affiliate of what became Network Ten. It commenced broadcasting on 26 July 1965, as South Australian Telecasters. In the early 1970s the station was bought out by Perth station TVW, TVW-7. On 27 December 1987, SAS-10 and ADS-7 switched broadcast channels, ADS moving to channel 10, SAS moving to channel 7. As the television industry was consolidating in Australia, these channels had each become associated by ownership with interstate stations bearing the opposite channel numbers, so to simplify network interaction, they agreed to swap channel assignments and network affiliations in Adelaide. ADS was owned by Kerry Stokes who also owned NEW-10 and CTC (TV station), Capital Television. Keith Houghton-Webb
Keith Houghton-Webb (née Keith Webb) is a musician, born 5 February 1959 in London, England, to John and Shirley Webb. Webb moved from England to Australia in 1967. Within a couple of years of arriving in Australia, Keith joined school-mates to form a small music group and entered a number of junior talent shows in Adelaide (South Australia). Keith and his older brother Mike received the "Encouragement Award" alongside Faye Nelson and Deborah Kirk on SAS 10's ''New Faces'' in 1971, before going on to win the final of the season. At the age of 12 Keith (and brother Mike) co-compared and contributed musically to a new show Hey Hey It's Saturday. The principal host of the show was Dean Davis. Mike Webb was born in London on 21 September 1956, and migrated to Australia at age 11 in 1967. Webb was initially well known for his appearances on Channel NWS-9 in Adelaide in the 1970s. John Williamson (singer)
John Robert Williamson (born 1 November 1945) is an Australian country music and folk music singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, television host and conservationist. Williamson usually writes and performs songs that relate to the history and culture of Australia, particularly the outback, in a similar vein to Slim Dusty and Buddy Williams before him. Liv Maessen is an Australian pop singer who had hits in the early 1970s with " The Love Moth", "Knock, Knock Who's There?" and "Snowbird". In 1969, Maessen had finished second in the ''New Faces'' talent show.
