Nevis Cricket Team
The Nevis national cricket team represents the Caribbean island of Nevis. The team is organised by the Nevis Cricket Association (NCA) which is a member of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA), in turn an affiliate of Cricket West Indies. Players from Nevis represent the Leeward Islands cricket team in West Indian domestic cricket and the West Indies cricket team in international cricket. Nevis is the smaller island in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis – both islands field separate teams. History Nevis was admitted to the Leeward Islands Cricket Association in 1949 and competed in the Leeward Islands Cricket Tournament for the first time in that year. Nevis is a small island in the Caribbean Sea that forms part of the inner arc of the Leeward Islands chain of the West Indies. Elquemedo Willett
Elquemedo Tonito Willett (born 1 May 1953) is a former West Indian international cricketer who played in five Test matches in 1973 and 1974. He made his first-class debut for Leeward Islands in 1970–71 at the age of 17, and played his last match in the 1988–89 season. He took 8 for 73 (his best innings figures) and 3 for 44 for the West Indians against Glamorgan in 1973. During New Zealand's tour of the West Indies in 1972, Willett was considered the best of the many left-arm finger-spinners the New Zealanders faced. Willett's nephew Stuart Williams has played many Tests and ODIs for the West Indies. His sons, Tonito and Akito Willett also play first-class cricket. History The team's history goes back to 1895, when they played three matches against a touring side from England led by Slade Lucas, but because of the distance to the other cricketing countries, Jamaica did not play regular first-class cricket until 1964. Robert Allen Stanford (born March 24, 1950) is an American financial fraudster, former financier, and sponsor of professional sports. Stanford 20/20
The Stanford 20/20 was a short-lived cricket tournament in the Caribbean island of Antigua. It was held first in July and August 2006 in the West Indies at the Stanford Cricket Ground, St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda, and then again in the same place in 2008. It was a variety of the popular Twenty20 format, which had been first introduced in English cricket in 2003. The tournament was separate to the Stanford Super Series, which was held in late 2008. The tournament was privately devised and funded by wealthy American businessman Allen Stanford, who held Antiguan dual nationality. The Montserrat cricket team has represented the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat in cricket. The team is not a member of the International Cricket Council, but the Montserrat Cricket Association is a member of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association, which itself is a member association of the West Indies Cricket Board, and players from Montserrat generally represent the Leeward Islands cricket team at domestic level and the West Indies at international level.
