State Route 121 (SR 121) was a state highway in Churchill County, Nevada, Churchill County, Nevada. It spurred from U.S. Route 50 in Nevada, U.S. Route 50, east of Fallon, Nevada, Fallon, north to a local road, Settlement Road in Dixie Valley, Nevada, Dixie Valley, with the moniker of Dixie Valley Road. SR 121 was assigned in 1976 and removed from the primary state highway system in 2021, with the entire length of the route being redesignated as Frontage Road FRCH08. Route description State Route 121 began at an intersection with U.S. Route 50 (the Austin Highway) to the east of the community of Fallon. Route 121 progressed northward through the United States Naval Recreation and Training Area just to the north of Route 50. The route progressed northward, through the mountains of Churchill County. Fallon, Nevada
Fallon is a city in Churchill County in the U.S. state of Nevada. The population was 9,327 at time of the 2020 census. Fallon is the county seat of Churchill County and is located in the Lahontan Valley. History The community was first populated during the California Gold Rush, because multiple would-be Forty-niners stopped after crossing the Carson River. The town and post office were established on July 24, 1896, in a little shack belonging to Michael Fallon and Eliza Fallon, who operated a ranch at the site. Shortly afterwards, Jim Richards later operated a store near the post office. The town was officially incorporated in 1908. On June 16, 2019, downtown Fallon was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Dixie Valley, Nevada
Dixie Valley, Nevada, was a small ranching town in Churchill County, Nevada until the area was acquired in 1995 by the US Navy for the Fallon Range Training Complex (FRTC). The town had no retail businesses, most residents were more than a mile from their nearest neighbor, and a 1-room school (grades 1–8) was the teacher's residence and served as a meeting, dance, and election hall (grades 9–12 were bussed 75 miles to Fallon, Nevada). The abandoned town of Dixie was established at the head of Dixie Valley in 1861 and named by Southern sympathizers. Churchill County is a county in the western U.S. state of Nevada. As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,516. Its county seat is Fallon. Named for Mexican–American War hero brevet Brigadier General Sylvester Churchill, the county was formed in 1861. Churchill County comprises the Fallon, NV Micropolitan Statistical Area. It is in northwestern Nevada. Churchill County is noteworthy in that it owns and operates the local telephone carrier, Churchill County Communications. KOLO-TV (channel 8) is a television station in Reno, Nevada, United States, affiliated with ABC and The CW Plus. It is owned by Gray Television alongside Incline Village–licensed low-power Telemundo affiliate KXNV-LD (channel 26). The two stations share studios on Ampere Drive in Reno; KOLO-TV's transmitter is located on Slide Mountain between SR 431 and I-580/US 395/ALT in unincorporated Washoe County.
