State Route 225 (SR 225) is a state highway in Elko County, Nevada, United States. Known as the Mountain City Highway, it connects the city of Elko to the town of Owyhee near the southwestern Idaho border via Mountain City. The route provides connections to Mountain Home, Idaho and Interstate 84 via Idaho State Highway 51. Route description SR 225 begins at the intersection of SR 535/Interstate 80 Business Loop (Idaho Street) and Silver Street just west of downtown Elko. From there it heads northwesterly along the east side of Elko Regional Airport and then has a junction with Interstate 80. The road continues northwest, winding its way up a narrow valley on its way to Adobe Summit in the Adobe Range. State Route 229 (SR 229) is a state highway in Elko County, Nevada, United States. It is a routing from Interstate 80 around Halleck, heading south through Secret Pass, to where it meets ''Ruby Valley Road'' ( State Route 767). From there it heads northeast to U.S. Route 93. History The southeastern portion of SR 229, between the junction of SR 767 and it eastern terminus at US 93, follows the alignment of the Hastings Cutoff, a route which at the time was thought to be a more direct route of the California Trail through the northeastern part of Nevada. Prior to 1976, SR 229 comprised a portion of State Route 11. Elko (Shoshoni: Natakkoa, "Rocks Piled on One Another") is the largest city in and county seat of Elko County, Nevada, United States. With a 2020 population of 20,564, Elko is currently growing at a rate of 0.31% annually and its population has increased by 11.86% since the 2010 Census, which recorded a population of 18,297. Elko serves as the economic hub of the Ruby Valley, a region with a population of over 55,000. Owyhee (, ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Elko County, Nevada, United States, along the banks of the Owyhee River. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Elko Micropolitan Statistical Area. It is the primary town of the federally recognized Shoshone-Paiute tribe's Duck Valley Indian Reservation, which covers portions of northern Nevada and southern Idaho, and the majority of its population are Native American. Owyhee, along with the rest of Nevada except for the city of West Wendover, is legally in the Pacific Time Zone. But, along with other Idaho border towns such as Jackpot, Mountain City and Jarbidge, it unofficially observes the Mountain Time Zone as it has closer proximity to and greater connections with towns in southern Idaho.
