The Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) was a governmental agency in the U.S. state of Nevada. The Department of Cultural Affairs headquarters was located in Carson City, Nevada. History The Department of Museums, Library, and Arts was created in 1993. In 2001, it was renamed as the Department of Cultural Affairs. The Department was eliminated by the legislature for budgetary reasons in 2011, and its components were moved to other departments. The Nevada Arts Council and the Division of Museums and History were moved into the newly established Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, while the Nevada State Library and Archives was moved to the Department of Administration, and the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office became part of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas
The Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas located at the Springs Preserve, in Las Vegas, Nevada is one of 7 Nevada State Museums operated by the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. The name was changed from the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society in 2008 when the museum moved from Lorenzi Park in Las Vegas to the Springs Preserve campus. The museum houses items from the development of Las Vegas as well as the natural history of the area. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm, closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. Nevada Southern Railroad Museum
The Nevada State Railroad Museum Boulder City is a railroad museum in Boulder City, Nevada which is an agency of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. The railway is located on the tracks that were installed to support construction activities at the Hoover Dam. The state obtained the tracks and right of way from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1985. Heritage railroad The museum operates a heritage railroad which offers passenger excursion trains using historic railroad equipment on a 7-mile, 45 minute round trip. Nevada State Railroad Museum
The Nevada State Railroad Museum, located in Carson City, Nevada, preserves the railroad heritage of Nevada, including locomotives and cars of the famous Virginia and Truckee Railroad. Much of the museum equipment was obtained from various Hollywood studios, where they were used in movies and television. The museum is operated by the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. Opened in 1980, it was originally named the Virginia & Truckee Railroad Museum, often shortened to V&T Railroad Museum, but was renamed the Nevada State Railroad Museum in 1985. The Lost City Museum, formerly known as the Boulder Dam Park Museum, is located in Overton, Nevada and is one of seven managed by the Nevada Division of Museums and History, an agency of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs.
