Neu! '72 Live In Düsseldorf
''Neu! '72 Live! in Düsseldorf'' is the final entirely new album released to date by krautrock band Neu!. It was recorded on 6 May 1972 at the congregation hall of St. Maria Unter Dem Kreuz. Despite the title, it is not a live album in any conventional sense, but instead is a transcription of a cassette tape recording of a rehearsal session. In the liner notes, Klaus Dinger described the recording as a "non-public test/self-audition with Eberhard Kranemann for a series of 6/7 concerts later in '72". The sound quality of the tape and the resulting CD is generally regarded as poor, with clearly audible tape hiss and distortion. Michael Rother (born 2 September 1950) is a German experimental musician, best known for being a founding member of the influential bands Neu! and Harmonia (band), Harmonia, and an early member of the band Kraftwerk. Early life and education Born in 1950, Rother was educated in Munich, Wilmslow (England), Karachi, and Düsseldorf. He also resided in Pakistan in the early 1960s where he was exposed to Pakistani music that would influence his own music in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Neu! (; German for "New!"; styled in block capitals) were a West German krautrock band formed in Düsseldorf in 1971 by Klaus Dinger and Michael Rother following their departure from Kraftwerk. The group's albums were produced by Conny Plank, who has been regarded as the group's "hidden member". They released three albums in their initial incarnation—''Neu!'' (1972), ''Neu! 2'' (1973), and ''Neu! 75'' (1975)—before disbanding in 1975. They briefly reunited in the mid-1980s. Though Neu! had minimal commercial success during their existence, the band are retrospectively considered a central act of West Germany's 1970s krautrock movement. ''Düsseldorf'' is a 1996 album by the German band La! Neu?, recorded in the year following the band's formation in summer 1995. The album features several members of the Düsseldorf band Kreidler, and was recorded primarily in the city after which it is named. It was released during a period of intense musical activity for Klaus Dinger, who had just signed to the Japanese record label Captain Trip Records, which he used to market two previously unreleased Neu! albums. It is La! Neu?'s debut album, although of the musicians featured on it only Dinger and Victoria "Wicki" Wehrmeister would form a consistent part of the future La! Neu? Background and recording In late 1994 Dinger was contacted by a group of young Düsseldorf musicians who had recently formed Kreidler and released their debut album "Riva". ''Avantgarde History'' is a CD-R compilation album created by Eberhard Kranemann of his work with artists such as Neu! and Joseph Beuys in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It was released privately and is only available on request. Bands Pissoff Pissoff was a band founded in the late 1960s by Kranemann and some friends. Eberhard had studied under Beuys, and the artist is featured with Pissoff on the first track, recorded in Düsseldorf's Creamcheese club. Shortly after this recording, Florian Schneider joined the band. An unedited version of this track was also released separately by Kranemann. The Origins of Kraftwerk This is a retrospectively named ensemble consisting of Schneider and Kranemann, both of whom would go on to play in the band Kraftwerk. The three jams were recorded in 1967.
