Netherlands In The Eurovision Song Contest 1993
The Netherlands was represented by Ruth Jacott, with the song "Vrede", at the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Millstreet, Ireland on 15 May. The song was chosen at the Dutch national final on 26 March. Before Eurovision Nationaal Songfestival 1993 The final took place on 26 March 1993 at the Discothèque Escape in Amsterdam, hosted by Paul de Leeuw. All eight songs were performed by Jacott, with the winner being decided by juries in the twelve Dutch provinces, who awarded votes as 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. Ruth Jacott
Ruth Jacott (born 2 September 1960) is a Surinamese-Dutch singer. Jacott transitioned from musical theatre to popular music in 1993, when she represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 1993. Her song, "Vrede" (Peace), was one of the favorites to win, and ended up ranking sixth out of 25 at Millstreet. She has since released nine Dutch-language albums, four of which made the Top Ten on the Dutch music charts. Biography Ruth Jacott was born in Suriname and at nine, moved with her family to The Netherlands, where at 17 she took part in a talent contest, after which she received many offers to perform. Eric Van Tijn
Eric Job van Tijn (born 2 November 1956, in Amsterdam) is a Dutch music producer and judge on the Dutch versions of the music competitions '' Idols'' and ''X Factor''. He comes from a musical family. His parents Eli and Lena van Tijn founded ''Artisound'' the year he was born and he grew up around the studio. In his youth, and during school years, he played in various bands. He also studied composition, arrangement and playing the piano in the conservatory. His initial musical work was producing Patricia Paay. Soon after, he arranged and produced for the Dutch television show '' De Familie Knots'', which resulted in an album also produced by him. It was also the beginning of a long-running cooperation with Jochem Fluitsma. Jochem Fluitsma (; born 1 June 1958 in Amsterdam, Netherlands), is a Dutch music producer and musician. With Eric van Tijn, he is also part of the musical writing duo Fluitsma & Van Tijn. He has written songs for The Scene, Guus Meeuwis & Vagant, Loïs Lane, De Kast, Willeke Alberti, the Dolly Dots and Mathilde Santing and Status Quo. Henk Westbroek
Hendrik Otto "Henk" Westbroek (born 27 February 1952) is a Dutch radiohost, singer, songwriter and former owner of a café named 'Stairway to Heaven' in the city of Utrecht. He was also a political activist for Leefbaar Utrecht and Leefbaar Nederland in 1998. Music career Westbroek was born in the former municipality of Zuilen, and studied sociology at Utrecht University, completing his course in 1973. In 1978, Westbroek, together with "the other Henk" (Henk Temming), formed the band Het Goede Doel. He scored several top ten hits with Temming and Het Goede Doel became one of the most successful Dutch language bands of the 1980s. In 1991, Het Goede Doel stopped performing. The Eurovision Song Contest 1993 was the 38th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Millstreet, Ireland, following the country's victory at the with the song " Why Me?" by Linda Martin. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (RTÉ), the contest was held at the Green Glens Arena on 15 May 1993 and was hosted by Irish TV-reporter Fionnuala Sweeney, marking the first time since the contest that just one presenter had hosted the contest. Millstreet
Millstreet () is a town in north County Cork, Ireland, with a population of 1,555 (as of 2016). Millstreet is within the civil parish of Drishane, and within a Poor Law Union also called Millstreet. Paul De Leeuw
Paul Henri de Leeuw (born 26 March 1962) is a Dutch television comedian, singer and actor. De Leeuw gained national fame in the late eighties and early nineties with television shows for broadcasting company VARA. Though satire was only a part of these shows and much of its humour was essentially harmless, he came into publicity with satire about Dutch show business personalities who were often ridiculed. Many obscure musical acts were featured in his shows, many of which managed to gain national fame after they had been in De Leeuw's show (e.g. Twarres and René Klijn, a former boyband member who contracted HIV). Alan Michael (musician)
Alen J. Matković (born 20 July 1970), known professionally as Alan Michael, is a Yugoslav-born Polish-Dutch singer, songwriter and record producer. He is known for his participation in the 1987 Sopot International Song Festival and for being one of the songwriters of the Dutch Eurovision Song Contest entries " One Good Reason" () and " One More Night" (). Gerrit Den Braber
Gerrit den Braber (23 March 1929 – 3 May 1997) was born in Rotterdam and was a Dutch songwriter and lyricist. Braber took music lessons in Rotterdam and Hilversum. He then went into Hospital Radio and joined the Dutch radio and television company VARA in 1955. He wrote the lyrics for three Eurovision Song Contest songs Fernando en Filippo, Ring-dinge-ding and I See a Star, he has also worked with former contestants Willeke Alberti, Corry Brokken, Anneke Grönloh, Lenny Kuhr and Conny Vandenbos as well as providing Dutch commentary for the 1985 Eurovision Song Contest. He was married to the mother of his children but they divorced and he went to live with Dutch artist Thérèse Steinmetz. He had three children and five grandchildren with his ex-wife.
