Nema Sagara
Nema Sagara is a colonel-major in the Malian Air Force. She received military education since 1986 in Mali, France and the United States. She is one of Africa's most senior female soldiers and one of the few Malian female commissioned officer to have seen combat. Service From 1997 to 2012, she worked in various services, notably at the Bamako airbase 100, Bamako-Sénou airbase 101 and at the general staff headquarters of the Malian armies. She also served in the United Nations Mission in Liberia (2004-2005) and she was a teacher at the École de maintien de la paix Alioune Blondin Beye (2007-2009) and at the basic training center in Koutiala Koutiala ( Bambara: ߞߎߕߌߊߟߊ tr. The Mali Air Force is the air force of Mali. History The Mali Air Force (french: Armée de l'air du Mali) was founded in 1961 with French-supplied military aid. This included MH.1521 Broussard utility monoplane followed by two C-47 transports until replaced by Soviet aid starting in 1962 with four Antonov AN-2 Colt biplane transports and four Mi-4 light helicopters. In the mid-1960s the Soviets delivered five MiG-17F fighters and a single MiG-15UTI fighter trainer to equip a squadron based at Bamako–Sénou initially with Soviet pilots. Two Ilyushin Il-14 transports and a Mil Mi-8 helicopter were delivered in 1971 followed by two Antonov An-24 transports. In 1974, 12 MiG-21Bis were obtained from the Soviet Union, with a pair of two-seat MiG-21UMs to follow a couple of years later. The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) was a peacekeeping operation established in September 2003 to monitor a ceasefire agreement in Liberia following the resignation of President Charles Taylor and the conclusion of the Second Liberian Civil War (1999–2003). At its peak it consisted of up to 15,000 U.N. military personnel and 1,115 police officers, along with civilian political advisors and aid workers. The Alioune Blondin Beye Peacekeeping School of Bamako (EMP) is a center in Mali designed to train African civilian and military leaders in peace support operations (PSO), at both fundamental and tactical levels. The EMP is part of two main networks. The first is ECOWAS, within which three centers provide PSO training: the National War College in Nigeria (strategic level), the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Ghana (operational level), and the EMP in Bamako (tactical level). The second is the African Peace Support Trainers Association (APSTA). Though it is the only center for PSO in the Francophone region, the instruction is bilingual (French-English) to best meet the linguistic realities of the continent and the multinational nature of PSO.
