Neil Renilson
Neil Renilson (born April 1955 in Edinburgh, Scotland) is a businessman who works in the travel and tourism industry. He has held high-ranking positions at a number of large bus companies including Go-Ahead Group, Stagecoach Group and Lothian Buses, and is currently a director of Jacobite Cruises and City Sightseeing. Early life Renilson was born in Edinburgh in 1955, and showed an early interest in public transport: he states that his mother said the second word he spoke was "tam" ( tram ) After leaving school he spent two years as a trainee at what was then Edinburgh Corporation Transport, before taking a degree in transport management and planning at Loughborough University. While there he shared a flat with runner Sebastian Coe. Northern General Transport Company
The Northern General Transport Company was a bus company in North East England. History It originated in the early 1900s when Gateshead and District Tramways asked Parliament's permission to extend their Tramway, which finished at Low Fell, to Chester-le-Street. Parliament denied this, so the directors decided to set up a motor bus operation instead. Hence the Northern General Transport Company was formed and its first depot was built at Picktree Lane, Chester-le-Street in 1913. Gateshead Tramways was a subsidiary of British Electric Traction. The first motor bus service was from Chester-le-Street, via Birtley, to Low Fell, where there was a connection to the Gateshead trams. The service was quickly extended to Gateshead and within a few years crossed the River Tyne to finish in Newcastle. Edinburgh Trams
Edinburgh Trams is a tramway in Edinburgh, Scotland, operated by Edinburgh Trams Ltd. It is a line between St Andrew Square in the New Town and Edinburgh Airport, with 15 stops. Construction began in June 2008, and after encountering delays it opened on 31 May 2014. The scheme had an initial estimated cost of £375 million in 2003, but by May 2008, when contracts were signed, the cost had risen to £521 million. The final cost after delays was £776 million. After running for two years, the scheme had achieved pre-tax profitability (excluding maintenance and infrastructure costs) and exceeded the original ridership targets. Sir Brian Souter (born 5 May 1954) is a Scottish businessman. With his sister, Ann Gloag, he founded the Stagecoach Group of bus and rail operators. He also founded the bus and coach operator Megabus, the train operating company South West Trains, his investments company Souter Holdings Ltd, and the Souter Charitable Trust. Souter has been politically active in Scotland, and supported the Scottish National Party financially.
