Neil Montgomery (musician)
Neil Montgomery (born 1998) is an Irish hurler who plays for Waterford Senior Championship club Abbeyside and at inter-county level with the Waterford senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a midfielder. Playing career University College Cork As a student at University College Cork, Montgomery earned selection on the university's top hurling team. He was a member of the extended panel when UCC claimed the 2019 Fitzgibbon Cup after a 2-21 to 0-13 defeat of Mary Immaculate College in the final. Montgomery remained a peripheral member of the team for the 2020 Fitzgibbon Cup. In spite of this, he ended the campaign with a second successive Fitzgibbon Cup medal after coming on as a substitute in the 0-18 to 2-11 defeat of the Institute of Technology, Carlow in the 2020 final. Abbeyside–Ballinacourty GAA
Abbeyside–Ballincourty GAA Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Abbeyside, County Waterford, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club plays both hurling and Gaelic football and competes in both senior codes in County Waterford. The club in its present incarnation was formed from the merger of Abbeyside Hurling Club and Ballinacourty Football club in 1967. In essence, the present club can trace its way back to 1927 when Abbeyside Hurling Club was formed. Ballinacourty Football Club was formed later in 1947. The club still uses two separate names depending on which sport they are playing. The name Abbeyside is still used as the name for its hurling teams, while its football teams still go under the name of Ballinacourty. 2016 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship
The 2016 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 86th staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. It is the primary inter-county hurling championship for boys under the age of eighteen. The championship began on 6 April 2016 and ended on 4 September 2016. Galway entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Tipperary in the All-Ireland semi-final. On 4 September 2016 Tipperary won the championship following a 1-21 to 0-17 defeat of Limerick in the All-Ireland final. The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. The 2020 National Hurling League was the 89th season of the National Hurling League for county teams. Division 1 was restructured in 2020 into two groups of approximately equal strength. The league was originally scheduled to end on 29 March 2020. The public health measures introduced to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in Ireland resulted in most of the final stages being delayed to October and the Division 1 final stage being reduced from five games to one. Eir Sport and RTÉ provide live TV coverage of the league on Saturday nights. TG4 broadcast Sunday afternoon games. 2020 Munster Senior Hurling League
The 2020 Munster Senior Hurling League was the fifth staging of the Munster Senior Hurling League since its establishment by the Munster Council in 2016. The league began on 15 December 2019 and ended on 11 January 2020. Clare were the defending champions, however, they failed to make it out of the group stage. On 11 January 2020, Limerick won the Munster League after a 1-32 to 0-20 defeat of Cork in the final at the LIT Gaelic Grounds. This was their second league title overall and their first title since 2018. Competition format The six teams are drawn into two groups of three teams. Each team plays the other teams in their group once, earning 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw. The two group winners advance to the final.
