Nehoiu
Nehoiu () is a town in Buzău County, Muntenia, Romania, with a population of 11,631. Wood processing is the local main economic activity. The town has a lumbermill since the early 20th century. It officially became a town in 1989, as a result of the Romanian rural systematization program. The town administers nine villages: Bâsca Rozilei, Chirlești, Curmătura, Lunca Priporului, Mlăjet, Nehoiașu, Păltineni, Stănila, and Vinețișu. Nehoiu is located in the northwestern part of the county, from the county seat, Buzău. It lies in a hilly area at the foot of the Curvature Carpathians, on the banks of the Buzău River. Romanian Rural Systematization Program
The Romanian rural systematization program was a social engineering program undertaken by Nicolae Ceaușescu's Romania primarily at the end of the 1980s. The legal framework for this program was established as early as 1974, but it only began in earnest in March 1988, after the Romanian authorities renounced most favoured nation status and the American human rights scrutiny which came with it. The declared aim of this program was to eliminate the differences between urban and rural, by the means of razing half of Romania's 13,000 villages and moving their residents into hundreds of new "agro-industrial centers" by 2000. The program gained notoriety in Europe, with protests from multiple countries – chiefly Hungary – as well as a Belgian-led initiative to save the Romanian villages by "adopting" them. The Buzău () is a river in eastern Romania, tributary of the river Siret. Its total length is 302 km, and its drainage basin area is 5,264 km2. The city of Buzău (formerly spelled ''Buzeu'' or ''Buzĕu''; ) is the county seat of Buzău County, Romania, in the historical region of Muntenia. It lies near the right bank of the Buzău River, between the south-eastern curvature of the Carpathian Mountains and the lowlands of Bărăgan Plain. DN10 ( ro, Drumul Național 10) is a national road in Romania that runs from Buzău to Brașov, crossing the Carpathian Mountains through the Buzău Pass. The road follows the Buzău River valley and is an important connection between Transylvania and the cities of south-eastern Romania. December 2006 landslide On 16 December 2006, a massive landslide which occurred in the Siriu commune near kilometer 81 rendered DN10 unusable in that area, as some 5000 m³ of dirt flooded the road.
