Negishi Stakes
The Negishi Stakes (Japanese 根岸ステークス) is a Grade 3 horse race for Thoroughbreds aged four and over, run in February over a distance of 1400 metres on dirt at Tokyo Racecourse. The Negishi Stakes was first run in 1987 and has held Grade 3 status ever since. The race was contested over 1200 metres from 1990 to 2000 and again in 2003. The 2003 edition was run at Nakayama Racecourse. The race is named in honour of Negishi Racecourse, a former horse racing venue in Yokohama. Tokyo Racecourse
is located in Fuchu, Tokyo, Japan. Built in 1933 for horse racing, it is considered the "racecourse of racecourses" in Japanese horseracing. It has a capacity of 223,000, with seating for 13,750. Tokyo Racecourse hosts numerous G1 (Grade 1) races, including the Japan Cup, Tokyo Yushun (the Japanese Derby) and the Yasuda Kinen, a part of the Asian Mile Challenge. Physical attributes Tokyo Race Course's grass course measures 2083m (1¼ miles + 234 feet) with two chutes (1800m and 2000m). Races can be run on the "A Course" rail setting (on the hedge), the "B Course" setting (rail out 3 meters), the "C Course" setting (rail out 6 meters), the "D Course" setting (rail out 9 meters) or the "E Course" setting (rail out 12 meters). The dirt course measures 1899 meters (1⅛ mile + 290 feet), with a 1600m chute. The jump course measures 1675 meters (1 mile + 215 feet). Yoshito Yahagi
Yoshito Yahagi(矢作 芳人, ''Yahagi Yoshito'') (born March 20, 1961, in Tokyo, Japan) is a trainer of Thoroughbred race horses. He has been a licensed trainer in Japan since 2004 and since 2014 has won the training title three times. He has trained Contrail, the 2020 Japanese Triple Crown winner. In the 2021 Breeders' Cup at Del Mar in California, Yahagi trained two winners— Filly & Mare Turf winner Loves Only You and Distaff winner Marche Lorraine. He became the first Japanese trainer to win any Breeders' Cup race. Lemon Pop
Lemon Pop (Japanese: レモンポップ, foaled February 15, 2018) is an active Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse. His major wins include the February Stakes, Mile Championship Nambu Hai, and Champions Cup (horse race), Champions Cup. He was awarded the JRA Award for Best Dirt Horse for 2023. His name was derived from a Japanese beverage named "Lemon Squash" ( Japanese: レモンスカッシュ). Racing career 2020/2021: two/three-year old season Lemon Pop made his debut at the Tokyo Racecourse on November 7, 2020, in a two-year old newcomer race on dirt at the distance of 1,300 meters, and won the race while he was ridden by Keita Tosaki. Three weeks later, he won the Cattleya Stakes. In his three-year old season, he was pre-registered to the UAE Derby and the Kentucky Derby but was withdrawn and sent to graze.
