Podgorica (Cyrillic script, Cyrillic: Подгорица, ; Literal translation, lit. 'under the hill') is the Capital city, capital and List of cities and towns in Montenegro, largest city of Montenegro. The Montenegro women's national handball team is the national team of Montenegro. It is governed by the Handball Federation of Montenegro and takes part in international handball competitions. History Montenegro's women's national handball team was formed in 2006, shortly after Montenegro gained independence. It was founded upon ŽRK Budućnost Podgorica, a club with numerous European trophies, which produced many famous Montenegrin players. 2006–2011 Montenegro has been playing in official competitions since 2006. 2022 European Women's Handball Championship
The 2022 European Women's Handball Championship was held in Slovenia, North Macedonia and Montenegro from 4 to 20 November 2022. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. ŽRK Budućnost is a women's handball team from Podgorica, Montenegro (previously, the club also appeared under the names ZRK Buducnost MONET, Buducnost Brillant and Buducnost Titograd). Among the numerous titles, Budućnost is two-times winner of EHF Women's Champions League The club was founded on February 13, 1949, and played its first official game in 1950. The first trophy, the Cup of Yugoslavia, was won in 1984. In 1985, ŽRK Budućnost won the Yugoslavian championship, and went on to win their first European title (Cup Winners' Cup) that same year. At the time, the club was pronounced as "the best in the country". The European Handball Federation (EHF) is the umbrella organisation for European handball. Founded on 17 November 1991, it is made of 50 member federations and two associated federations (England and Scotland), and is headquartered in Vienna, Austria.
