Navajo Dome
Navajo Dome is a elevation summit located in Capitol Reef National Park, in Wayne County of Utah, United States. This iconic landmark is situated east of the park's visitor center, and northwest of Capitol Dome. Precipitation runoff from this feature is drained by the Fremont River, which in turn is within the Colorado River drainage basin. It rises above the Fremont River and Highway 24, from which it is visible. The approach to the base of this peak is made via the Hickman Bridge Trail. This geological feature's descriptive name derives from its Navajo Sandstone composition and dome-like shape. Capitol Reef National Park
Capitol Reef National Park is an American national park in south-central Utah. The park is approximately long on its northsouth axis and just wide on average. The park was established in 1971 to preserve of desert landscape and is open all year, with May through September being the highest visitation months. Partially in Wayne County, Utah, the area was originally named "Wayne Wonderland" in the 1920s by local boosters Ephraim P. Pectol and Joseph S. Hickman. Capitol Reef National Park was designated a national monument on August 2, 1937, by President Franklin D. Utah State Route 24
State Route 24 (SR-24) is a state highway in south central Utah which runs south from Salina through Sevier County then east through Wayne County and north east through Emery County. At a total of 163.294 miles (262.796 km), it is the longest contiguous state route in Utah. The exposed geology of the Capitol Reef area presents a record of mostly Mesozoic-aged sedimentation in an area of North America in and around Capitol Reef National Park, on the Colorado Plateau in southeastern Utah. Nearly 10,000 feet (3,000  m) of sedimentary strata are found in the Capitol Reef area, representing nearly 200 million years of geologic history of the south-central part of the U.S. state of Utah. The Laramide orogeny was a time period of mountain building in western North America, which started in the Late Cretaceous, 70 to 80 million years ago, and ended 35 to 55 million years ago. The exact duration and ages of beginning and end of the orogeny are in dispute. The Laramide orogeny occurred in a series of pulses, with quiescent phases intervening. In geology, cross-bedding, also known as cross-stratification, is layering within a stratum and at an angle to the main bedding plane. Hickman Bridge
Hickman Natural Bridge is a 125-foot-tall (38 m) natural bridge located in Capitol Reef National Park, Wayne County, Utah, United States. The formation spans 133 feet (40 meters), making it one of the largest rock spans in the park. Geology The sandstone bridge was carved out of a geological formation known as the Kayenta Formation 65 million years ago, formed by flowing water coursing down the rock fin and eventually breaking through the soft shale.
