Daniel, Wyoming
Daniel is a census-designated place in Sublette County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 150 at the 2010 census. The town lies on U.S. Route 189, in the Green River valley as the water flows out of the Gros Ventre Range to Daniel's north and the Wind River Mountains to the town's east. Horse Creek, a Green River tributary that joins just west of Daniel, has its headwaters west in the Salt River Range. Thus bordered on three sides by nearby mountains, Daniel lies in the very northern, highest part of the large basin that defines much of southern Wyoming. Wyoming Highway 354 is a west-east road that intersects US Highways 189 and 191 north of town. History On July 5, 1840, Father Pierre-Jean De Smet offered the first Holy Mass (an important Christian worship ceremony) in Wyoming. Green River (Colorado River)
The Green River, located in the western United States, is the chief tributary of the Colorado River. The watershed of the river, known as the Green River Basin, covers parts of the U.S. states of Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado. The Green River is long, beginning in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming and flowing through Wyoming and Utah for most of its course, except for a short segment of in western Colorado. Much of the route traverses the arid Colorado Plateau, where the river has carved some of the most spectacular canyons in the United States. Teton National Forest
Teton National Forest was first established by the General Land Office on February 22, 1897 as the Teton Forest Reserve with . A commission was established in 1896 to plan for a system of national forest reserves, recommending an expansion of the territory protected by the Yellowstone Timberland Reserve. President Grover Cleveland's 1897 proclamation established a protected area encompassing the northern end of Jackson Hole, extending from the south boundary of the Yellowstone Forest Reserve south to the area of the Gros Ventre River, and from the Idaho border in the west to the area of the Continental Divide in the east. Much of this area would eventually be incorporated into Grand Teton National Park. A continental divide is a drainage divide on a continent such that the drainage basin on one side of the divide feeds into one ocean or sea, and the basin on the other side either feeds into a different ocean or sea, or else is endorheic, not connected to the open sea. Pinedale, Wyoming
Pinedale is a town in and the county seat of Sublette County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 2,030 at the 2010 census. Pinedale is an important hunting outfitting town and a gateway to the Wind River Mountains. It is also a major gateway to the Jackson Hole area in Wyoming. Additionally, Pinedale is near several large natural gas fields, including the Pinedale Anticline and Jonah Field. Attractions include the Museum of the Mountain Man, Green River Rendezvous Days, White Pine Ski Area, the Pinedale Aquatic Center and the Town Park System along the Pine Creek Corridor in the middle of town. Cora, Wyoming
Cora is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sublette County, Wyoming. The population was 142 at the 2010 census. History Cora may have been named after Cora House, a cowgirl who lived in the area. In the early 20th century, the town post office was moved to its current site from a ranch one mile to the east. Dogsleds were once used to make winter deliveries to residents who lived in the Cora area and the rest of the Upper Green River valley. In 2011, the U.S. Postal Service considered closing the Cora post office for budgetary reasons. Residents of Cora protested and wrote letters to the USPS requesting that the post office remain open because it serves as a gathering place for the community. As of 2020, the post office is still open. John Perry Barlow, lyricist for the Grateful Dead, grew up in Cora on his family's homestead, the Bar Cross Ranch. Wyoming Highway 350
Wyoming Highway 350 (WYO 350) is a east-west Wyoming state road located in southeastern Sublette County. It acts as a spur from U.S. Route 189 (US 189) in Big Piney west toward the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Route description Wyoming Highway 350 begins its western end near the Bridger-Teton National Forest at CR 111 five miles west of Big Piney. Highway 350 picks up the name Middle Piney Road and travels east reaching Big Piney at a little over 3.5 miles. WYO 350 enters on Piney Drive before turning south onto N. Nichols Street.
