Maryland Route 234
Maryland Route 234 (MD 234) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known as Budds Creek Road, the state highway runs from U.S. Route 301 (US 301) in Allens Fresh east to MD 5 in Leonardtown. MD 234 is the primary east–west highway of southern Charles County and western St. Mary's County, connecting the St. Mary's County seat of Leonardtown and the communities of Clements, Chaptico, Budds Creek, Wicomico, and Newport with US 301, which heads north to La Plata, the county seat of Charles County, and south to the Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge over the Potomac River. MD 234 originally followed what is now MD 238 from Chaptico east to MD 5 at Helen. Maryland Route 472
Maryland Route 472 (MD 472) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known as North Sandgates Road, the state highway runs from MD 235 in Oakville north to Sandgates Creek in Sandgates. MD 472 was built in 1933. Route description MD 472 begins at an intersection with MD 235 (Three Notch Road) in Oakville. The state highway heads northeast as a two-lane undivided road through farmland and forest with scattered residences. After passing the historic home Sandgates On Cat Creek, MD 472 enters the beach community of Sandgates on the Patuxent River. The state highway reaches its northern terminus at the west end of the county-maintained wooden-floored bridge over Sandgates Creek. The roadway continues south as South Sandgates Road, a county highway that connects back with MD 235 in Hillville. History MD 472 was constructed in 1933. Piney Point (also known simply as "The Point"), is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States. It is known for the Paul Hall Center for Maritime Training and Education, houses along the beach, a lighthouse, and a museum. Maryland Route 239 (MD 239) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known as Bushwood Wharf Road, the state highway runs from a dead end at the Wicomico River east to MD 242 near Bushwood in western St. Mary's County. MD 239 was constructed in the late 1920s. Route description MD 239 begins at a dead end next to a boat ramp on Bushwood Cove of the Wicomico River at a spot historically known as Bushwood Wharf. The state highway heads east as a two-lane undivided road past the historic home Ocean Hall located to the south. At Bushwood Road, MD 239 curves to the southeast, passing through farmland and crossing Whites Neck Creek before intersecting the northern terminus of MD 520 (Whites Neck Road). Maryland Route 244 (MD 244) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known for most of its length as Medleys Neck Road, the state highway runs from MD 5 near Leonardtown south to MD 249 in Valley Lee. MD 244 parallels MD 5 in central St. Mary's County, serving several communities on Medleys Neck between Breton Bay and the St. Mary's River, including Beauvue. The state highway was constructed as part of three different state highways—MD 244 from Leonardtown, MD 250 from Valley Lee, and MD 251 through Drayden—between the late 1920s and late 1930s.
