Stratford, Oklahoma
Stratford is a town in Garvin County, Oklahoma, United States. Prior to Oklahoma statehood in 1907, the town existed under different names and was in the Chickasaw Nation in a geographic region known as Indian Territory. Peach orchards abound in and around the town. As of the 2020 census, the town’s population was 1,405. Lindsay is a city in Garvin County, Oklahoma, Garvin County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 2,840 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census. It once promoted itself as "The Broomcorn Capital of the World" but no longer uses that slogan, as broomcorn is no longer raised in the area. History Lindsay was founded in January 1902, when the Kiowa, Chickasha and Fort Smith Railway (an affiliate of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe) and the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific railroad companies were linking their lines halfway between Chickasha, Oklahoma, Chickasha and Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Pauls Valley, a project completed in 1903. The AT&SF trains from Pauls Valley turned around at Lindsay, and the Rock Island trains from Chickasha did the same. State Highway 7 (abbreviated SH-7) is a highway in southern Oklahoma. This lengthy highway connects many towns in Oklahoma's " Little Dixie" area. It runs from Interstate 44 in Lawton to U.S. 69/US-75 in Atoka. Route description From its western terminus at the interchange with Interstate 44 and Lee Boulevard in Lawton, SH-7 is a multilane highway. It runs due east from Lawton for before intersecting State Highway 65 in the unincorporated community of Pumpkin Center. It continues due east for 14 more miles on a straight stretch of highway only very slight curves, bypassing the town of Central High, before meeting US-81 north of Duncan. SH-7 and US-81 overlap for through Duncan, after which the state highway splits off to the east once again, still as a multilane highway, though it falls to a two-lane road after a few miles. Wynnewood, Oklahoma
Wynnewood is a city in Garvin County, Oklahoma, United States. It is south of Oklahoma City. The population was 2,212 at the 2010 U.S. census, compared to 2,367 in 2000. Located in what was then the Chickasaw Nation of Indian Territory, it began as a village called "Walner" in 1886, on the proposed route of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway. Railroad workers from Pennsylvania named the community for Wynnewood, a community outside of Philadelphia. The name became official on April 6, 1887. History At the time of its founding, Wynnewood was located in Pickens County, Chickasaw Nation. Wynnewood quickly became a market town for the surrounding area. In 1887, Presbyterian missionary Mary Semple Hotchkins moved her school for Chickasaw children from Cherokee Town to Wynnewood. In 1901, local citizens paid for building Indianola College.
