Of these, 29 are National Historic Landmarks. Each of Tennessee's 95 counties has at least one listing. Following is a list of sites and structures in Tennessee that have been designated National Historic Landmarks. There are 30 National Historic Landmarks located entirely in the state, and one that includes elements in bot. All National Historic Landmarks are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Promise Land, Tennessee
Promise, Promise Land or Promised Land was an unincorporated community founded in rural Dickson County, Tennessee, United States, north of Charlotte soon after the American Civil War by formerly enslaved people. At one time the settlement included stores, two church buildings (housing three congregations), a schoolhouse and around thirty houses. The community began to dissipate during the era of the First and Second Great Migrations. By 1957 the Promise Land School, which at its 1905 peak had boasted 97 students of all grade levels, was consolidated with a school in Charlotte, although the school building was re-purposed as a community center and still stands, as does one of the two church buildings. While Promise Land no longer exists as a recognizable entity, heirs of the original African American settlers still own land in the area, and the annual Promise Land Community Festival brings back former residents and their descendants on the first weekend of June. State Route 96 (SR 96) is an east–west and north–south highway in Middle Tennessee. The road begins in Dickson and ends in Granville. The current length is . Along its path it goes through 10 counties. Locals mostly refer to it as Highway 96. SR 96 changes cardinal directions from East–West to North–South in DeKalb County after an unsigned concurrency with U.S. 70. State Route 47 (SR 47) is a Tennessee State Highway located entirely within Dickson County. SR 47 is generally traversed only in part; the two termini are in fact only about eight miles (13 km) distant from each other, and are impracticable as a route from end-to-end, as the distance the highway runs is over twice this long. Route description State Route 47 begins as a secondary highway at an intersection with State Route 48 slightly southeast of downtown Dickson near the Fairgrounds. In the Dickson city limits, it is known as East Walnut Street. Outside of Dickson, the road runs east through the communities of Colesburg and Burns. White Bluff, Tennessee
White Bluff is a town in Dickson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 3,862 at the 2020 census and 3,206 at the 2010 census. The community name derives from the White Bluff Iron Forge. History A fort was constructed at White Bluff in 1806, and an iron forge shortly afterward. State Route 48 (SR 48) is a long north–south state highway in Middle Tennessee. It traverses six counties, and it is long. Route description Wayne, Perry, and Lewis Counties SR 48 begins as a primary state route in far northern Wayne County at a junction with SR 13. Then it travels through the southeastern corner of Perry County before entering Lewis County to intersect SR 20, and then U.S. Route 412 (US 412) and SR 99 in Hohenwald.
