South Carolina Highway 45 (SC 45) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It serves as the main thoroughfare in northern Berkeley County. Route description History Established as an original state highway in 1922, it traversed from SC 41 in St. Stephen to SC 31 in St. Matthews. Around 1926, SC 45 was truncated west of St. Stephen along a new alignment of SC 41 (current U.S. Route 52 or US 52). By 1931, SC 45 was extended west on new primary routing to SC 24 in Pelion. Norway, South Carolina
Norway is a town in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 337 at the 2010 census. History Norway was laid out in 1891 when the railroad was extended to that point. A post office has been in operation at Norway since 1892. The town was so named in order to fit with the railroad's "Scandinavian" naming scheme; other such examples include Sweden, South Carolina and Denmark, South Carolina. The Willow Consolidated High School was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. Race riot On July 4, 1903, the majority African-American population rose in protest, in reaction to the lynching on July 1 of resident Charles Evans, who was suspected of killing disabled Confederate veteran John T. Interstate 26 (I-26) is a main route of the Interstate Highway System in the Southeastern United States. Nominally east–west, as indicated by its even number, I-26 runs from the junction of U.S. Route 11W (US 11W) and US 23 in Kingsport, Tennessee, generally southeastward to US 17 in Charleston, South Carolina. South Carolina Highway 4 (SC 4) is a primary state highway in the southern part of the U.S. state of South Carolina. The highway connects Aiken and Orangeburg, via Springfield and Neeses. Route description SC 4 begins at an intersection with U.S. Route 78 (US 78; Charleston Highway) southeast of Aiken. The route travels to the east-northeast and intersects US 78 Truck/ SC 118/ SC 302 (Rudy Mason Parkway). SC 4 and SC 302 form an approximately concurrency. History The community was so named because a railroad branch began at the town site. Branchville, located on the southern tip of Orangeburg County, is home to the world's oldest railroad junction.
