Liberty Hill, South Carolina
Liberty Hill is a scattered unincorporated community in Kershaw County, South Carolina, United States. The community is located along and either side of the junction of South Carolina Highway 97 and South Carolina Highway 522, northwest of Camden. Liberty Hill has a post office with ZIP code 29074, which opened on January 19, 1818. There is also a fire lookout tower there, and a church, and a few houses spread along the main road, but otherwise no businesses or services. This is a List of National Historic Landmarks in South Carolina, United States. The United States' National Historic Landmark (NHL) program is operated under the auspices of the National Park Service, and recognizes buildings, sites, structures, districts, and objects according to a list of criteria of national significance. South Carolina Highway 522
South Carolina Highway 522 (SC 522) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It serves to connect communities in central Lancaster County. Route description SC 522 is a two-lane rural highway, from Liberty Hill to the North Carolina state line, near Sapps Crossroads. It is similar to a Farm-to-market road that it provides no real destination for travelers, but does provides access to farmland in central Lancaster County. History Originally established in either 1937 or 1938, it was a new primary route from U.S. Route 521 (US 521) near Heath Springs to North Carolina Highway 9 in Primus. In 1948, it was decommissioned. However, in 1949, it was reestablished along the same route and north to the North Carolina state line. Rembert is a town in Sumter County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 306 at the 2010 census, a decline from 406 in 2000. It is included in the Sumter, South Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Ellerbe's Mill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Geography Rembert is located at . Boykin, Kershaw County, South Carolina
Boykin is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Kershaw County, South Carolina, United States. Its population was 100 as of the 2010 census. Boykin is located on South Carolina Highway 261, south of Camden. It is named for John Boykin, an early resident. History On May 5, 1860, at least two dozen individuals drowned in the Boykin Mill Pond when a flatboat they were enjoying an excursion on sank after it struck a stump, began taking on water and those onboard panicked and moved toward one end of the boat. It tipped, dumping the more than 50 people on the flatboat into the water. The Battle of Boykin's Mill was fought in Boykin on April 18, 1865. It marked the last battle of the American Civil War fought in South Carolina and was the site of the last Union officer killed in action during the conflict.
