Spring Creek Township is a township in Elk County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 198 at the 2020 census, down from 233 in 2010. History The Lake City School was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Geography The township is in the southwestern part of Elk County and is bordered by Jefferson County to the southwest. The Clarion River crosses the township from east to west. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and , or 1.11%, is water. Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania
Johnsonburg is a borough in Elk County, Pennsylvania, northeast of Pittsburgh and south of Buffalo, New York, in a productive farming and lumbering region. Paper mills were once common in the borough, with the Domtar mill still operating. In 1910, 4,334 people lived here. The population was 2,483 at the 2010 census. Clarion River
The Clarion River is a tributary of the Allegheny River, approximately 110 mi (177 km) long, in west central Pennsylvania in the United States. It drains a rugged area of the Allegheny Plateau in the Ohio River watershed, flowing through narrow serpentine valleys and hardwood forests. Course The river is formed at Johnsonburg in central Elk County by the confluence of its East and West Branches. The East Branch, approximately 15 mi (24 km) long, rises in northeastern Elk County and flows southwest through East Branch Clarion River Lake to join the West Branch. The river flows generally west-southwest across western Pennsylvania in a tight meandering course past Ridgway and Clarion. Ridgway, Pennsylvania
Ridgway is a borough in and the county seat of Elk County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 4,078. History Ridgway was founded by Philadelphian shipping merchant Jacob Ridgway and James Gillis. Jacob Ridgway earned substantial wealth both in Philadelphia and abroad in London. He constantly sent sums of money back to be invested in property. In the early 19th century as part of a larger land purchase, Ridgway acquired that became Elk County. One of Jacob Ridgway's nephews, James Gillis, convinced Ridgway that the area could become a very lucrative spot for a lumber camp due to the proximity of Elk Creek and the Clarion River, a tributary of the Allegheny River. Coal and natural gas abound in the district. Pennsylvania Route 255 (PA 255) is a state highway located in Clearfield and Elk counties in Pennsylvania. The southern terminus is at U.S. Route 219 (US 219) in DuBois. The northern terminus is at US 219 in Johnsonburg. Route description Clearfield County PA 255 begins at an intersection with US 219 in the city of DuBois in Clearfield County, heading east on two-lane undivided East DuBois Avenue. The road runs immediately to the north of a Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad line and passes to the south of the Penn State DuBois university campus, gaining a center left-turn lane and heading through commercial areas with some homes. The route becomes the border between Sandy Township to the north and DuBois to the south, passing more businesses and coming to Shaffer.
