The National Lacrosse League Most Valuable Player Award is given annually to the NLL player who is considered to have contributed most to his team's success. The award winners are chosen by a vote of the league's coaches, general managers, and executives. In team sports, a most valuable player award, abbreviated 'MVP award', is an honor typically bestowed upon an individual (or individuals, in the instance of a tie) whose individual performance is the greatest in an entire league, for a particular competition, or on a specific team. The purpose of the award is recognize the contribution of the individual's efforts amongst a group effort, and to highlight the excellence, exemplariness, and/or outstandingness of a player's performance amidst the performance of their peers in question. The term can have different connotations depending on the context in which it is used. Rob Hellyer
Rob Hellyer (born June 28, 1992) is a Canadian professional lacrosse player. He is a forward and alternate captain for the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League. Early life Hellyer was born on June 28, 1992, in Lion's Head, Ontario, Canada. Growing up, he played junior lacrosse for Wiarton and was eventually called up by the Owen Sound North Stars’ organization to play with their Jr. B team. Following this, Hellyer played four years of Jr. A with the Orangeville Northmen, scoring 117 goals and 171 assists for 288 points in 69 games. While with the team, he was named to the league's second all-star team and won the Minto Cup in 2012. The Vancouver Warriors are a professional box lacrosse team in the National Lacrosse League. The team moved from Everett, Washington, for the 2014 NLL season. History The Warriors are based in Vancouver, British Columbia, and play at Rogers Arena, home of the Vancouver Canucks of the NHL. From the 2014 season to the 2017–18 season the Warriors (then known as the Stealth) played at the Langley Events Centre (LEC) in the Vancouver suburb of Langley, British Columbia. Corey Small (born March 23, 1987 in St. Catharines, Ontario) is a Canadians, Canadian lacrosse player who plays for the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League and formerly the Hamilton Nationals in Major League Lacrosse. High school career Small attended Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School (St. Catharines), Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in St. Catharines. Robert Church (born August 29, 1988) is a professional lacrosse player for the Saskatchewan Rush in the National Lacrosse League. Early life Church is the son of Nancy and Bruce Church. He grew up in Coquitlam, BC and began playing lacrosse when he was 11. He attended Dr. Charles Best Secondary School where he graduated with honors, was the B.C. The Saskatchewan Rush are a professional box lacrosse team based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Formerly the Edmonton Rush, they are members of the Western Division of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) and play their home games on Co-op Field at SaskTel Centre. Mark Matthews (born January 27, 1990) is a professional lacrosse player for the Saskatchewan Rush in the National Lacrosse League. Canadian Lacrosse Association career Matthews played for the OLA Jr A Whitby Warriors for three years, winning a Minto Cup in 2011. Lyle Thompson
Lyle Thompson (born September 9, 1992) is an Iroquois professional lacrosse player at the attack position for the Cannons Lacrosse Club of the Premier Lacrosse League and the Georgia Swarm of the National Lacrosse League. He shared the 2014 Tewaaraton Trophy with his brother Miles while winning it again in 2015 alone. He is the only player in history to win the award twice consecutively. The Calgary Roughnecks are a professional box lacrosse team based in Calgary, Alberta. They are members of the Western Division of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) and play their home games on WestJet Field at Scotiabank Saddledome. The team name is derived from the roughnecks who work drilling rigs in Alberta's oil and gas industry. The team is affectionately known by fans as the ''Riggers''.
