National Defense College (Israel)
The National Security College ( he, המכללה לביטחון לאומי, haMichlala l'Bitachon Leumi, variously abbreviated as MBL, MABL, MBAL, MABAL), also translated as the National Defense College is a military education institution in Israel intended to provide education on the foundations of national security at an academic level in political and social issues. The college is intended for senior members of the all branches of the Israeli security forces. The decision to establish the college was made by the cabinet in 1962 and it was opened in October 1963 with Colonel Uzi Narkiss as its head but in 1966 a committee was established to analyze whether the existence of the college is justified in view of the difficult economic situation. It was decided that the college failed to efficiently address the stated goals and it was decided to close it in 1967. It was decided to reopen it in 1977. Uzi Narkiss
Uzi Narkiss ( he, עוזי נרקיס; January 6, 1925 – December 17, 1997) was an Israeli general. Narkiss was commander of the Israel Defense Forces units in the Central Region during the 1967 Six-Day War. Narkiss appears in the famous photograph of Defense Minister Moshe Dayan flanked by Chief of Staff Yitzhak Rabin taken in the Old City of Jerusalem shortly after its capture from Jordanian forces. Biography Uzi Narkiss was born in Jerusalem to Polish Jewish parents. His first memory was of going into hiding during the 1929 Arab riots. Narkiss attended high school at Gymnasia Rehavia. He joined the Palmach at the age of 16 and was involved in Haganah operations against British Mandatory forces in Palestine. He died in Jerusalem at the age of 72. IDF Military Colleges
The IDF Military Colleges is a centralized educational unit of the Israeli Defence Forces under the command of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, General Staff. Since 2019 its commander is ''aluf'' Itai Veruv. It was established in 1991 by merging Israeli military colleges into a single unit. The first commander was Yossi Ben Hanan.
