National Campus And Community Radio Association
The National Campus and Community Radio Association/L'Association nationale des radios étudiantes et communautaires (NCRA/ANREC) is a non-profit organization of campus radio and community radio stations in Canada. It represents the interests of the sector to government (particularly the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC)) and other agencies, and promotes community radio in Canada. Since 1981, it has helped lower tariffs affecting radio stations and assisted new stations to launch, as well as to obtain operating funds. Core initiatives include GroundWire, ''Dig Your Roots'', ''!earshot'', Women’s Hands and Voices, the Community Radio Fund of Canada, sector-wide listservs, and an annual radio conference. CKUW-FM
CKUW-FM (95.9 MHz) is the campus radio station at the University of Winnipeg in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The station broadcasts with 450 watts effective radiated power. Its transmitter and antenna are on top of #7 Evergreen Place in Osborne village in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Local cultural programs are a large part of the schedule, and a quarter of CKUW's programming consists of spoken word shows covering local news, the entertainment scene, and community/social justice issues. The station operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week with all the programming being done by volunteers. CFMU-FM
CFMU-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 93.3 FM in Hamilton, Ontario. It is a campus/community radio station owned and operated by the McMaster Students Union at McMaster University. History CFMU began as a project of the McMaster Radio Club in the late 1960s as a closed circuit AM station, under the auspices of the Board of Student Broadcasting. In 1976, CFMU applied for its first FM license from the CRTC for 107.9, but was denied in favour of a broadcaster in Burlington. CFMU was eventually launched on FM on January 13, 1978, broadcasting in mono at 50 watts. CKUT-FM is the official campus community radio station of McGill University. It can be heard at 90.3 FM in Montreal. CKUT's FM signal, broadcast from a tower on the top of Mount Royal, reaches as far as the Eastern Townships and upstate New York. CKUT is consistently voted as the Best Radio Station in '' The Montreal Mirror's'', " Cult Montreal" Best of Montreal Readers Poll. CKUT's programming is produced by more than 300 volunteers who are McGill students and members of the community. The station also employs a handful of full-time and part-time coordinators. CFUV-FM is a campus/community radio station broadcasting on 101.9 FM in British Columbia, Canada. It serves the University of Victoria, Greater Victoria and, via cable, Vancouver Island and many areas in the Lower Mainland. It is owned and run by the University of Victoria Student Radio Society. CKVC, the precursor to CFUV was on air from 1965 until 1970 and had a broadcast range that included the Student Union Building as well as two student residence buildings. CKDU-FM (88.1 MHz) is a non-profit radio station broadcasting from the campus of Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It airs a campus radio format serving the Halifax Regional Municipality area and is operated by the not-for-profit CKDU-FM Society. Its mandate is to provide the Halifax area with an alternative to public and private radio broadcasting. The 2,460 watt transmitter reaches the urban core of Halifax and adjacent communities. History CKDU evolved from the Dalhousie University radio club, Radio Tiger, which dated back at least to the 1950s. CKLN-FM was a community radio station based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. From 1983 to 2011, CKLN Radio Inc. was licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission as a campus-community FM radio station affiliated with Ryerson University, and broadcast at 88.1 MHz on the FM dial with the call sign CKLN-FM. It ceased FM broadcasting on April 15, 2011, after its licence was revoked on January 28, 2011 and continued as an internet radio outlet until it ceased operations on December 26, 2011. In its final months, most of the internet broadcaster's programs were produced in the Regent Park neighbourhood of Toronto. CJSW-FM is a campus radio station, broadcasting at 90.9 FM, from the University of Calgary, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. CJSW is a member of the National Campus and Community Radio Association and the University of Calgary Tri-Media Alliance in partnership with NUTV (the campus television station) and The Gauntlet (the campus newspaper). CJSW's studios are located in the MacEwan Student Centre on the University of Calgary campus, with its transmitter located at Old Banff Coach Road and 85 Street Southwest.
