National Antarctic Scientific Center Of Ukraine
The National Antarctic Scientific Center (NANC) ( uk, Національний антарктичний науковий центр, abbreviated as НАНЦ) is an organization of the Ukraine, Ukrainian government, part of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The center operates Vernadsky Research Base and coordinates Ukrainian research of Antarctic. Since 2021, it has operated the polar supply and research ship ''Noosfera (icebreaker), Noosfera''. Goals The body's goals are: * development and implementation of research programs in Antarctica; * ensuring further development of Vernadsky Research Base; * interdisciplinary research in the field of environmental protection. Science and technology in Ukraine has its modern development and historical origins in the 18th and 19th centuries and is associated, first of all, with the Kyiv Mohyla Academy, University of Kyiv and University of Kharkiv. Noosfera (icebreaker)
''Noosfera'' ( ua, Ноосфера, , Noosphere) is a polar supply and research ship operated by the National Antarctic Scientific Center of Ukraine. Until 2021, she was operated by the British Antarctic Survey and named RRS ''James Clark Ross''. History British Antarctic Survey RRS ''James Clark Ross'' was constructed at Swan Hunter Shipbuilders in Wallsend, UK and was named after the British explorer James Clark Ross. She replaced the in 1991. She was launched by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1st December 1990. In March 2018, RRS ''James Clark Ross'' was due to sample the marine life around the world's biggest iceberg, A-68, but was unable to reach the site due to sea ice conditions.
