Nassau County Sewage District
The Nassau County Sewage District is a public sewer district in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. It is owned by Nassau County and as of 2022 is operated under contract by Suez North America. Description The Nassau County Sewage District serves large portions of Nassau County. In recent years, the Nassau County Sewage District assumed control of the City of Glen Cove's sanitary sewer system. Nassau County's sanitary sewer system handles roughly 85% of sewage in Nassau County. The other 15% is handled by smaller, independent water pollution control districts (i.e.: the Port Washington Water Pollution Control District). New York State Route 25D
New York State Route 25D (NY 25D) was a state highway located on Long Island in the U.S. state of New York. It was originally the designation of Horace Harding Boulevard, Nassau Boulevard, and Powerhouse Road, the route of which the Long Island Expressway (Interstate 495) took over as it was constructed in the 1950s. The NY 25D designation along the LIE was replaced by NY 24 upon the completion of the expressway through Queens and western Nassau County in 1958. Sands Point, New York
Sands Point is a village located at the tip of the Cow Neck Peninsula in the Town of North Hempstead, in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. It is considered part of the Greater Port Washington area, which is anchored by Port Washington. The population was 2,675 at the 2010 census. History The village was incorporated in 1910, and is named for the Sands family. A septic tank is an underground chamber made of concrete, fiberglass, or plastic through which domestic wastewater ( sewage) flows for basic sewage treatment. Settling and anaerobic digestion processes reduce solids and organics, but the treatment efficiency is only moderate (referred to as "primary treatment"). Cesspit
A cesspit (or cesspool or soak pit in some contexts) is a term with various meanings: it is used to describe either an underground holding tank (sealed at the bottom) or a soak pit (not sealed at the bottom). It can be used for the temporary collection and storage of feces, excreta or fecal sludge as part of an on-site sanitation system and has some similarities with septic tanks or with soak pits. Traditionally, it was a deep cylindrical chamber dug into the ground, having approximate dimensions of 1 metre (3') diameter and 2–3 metres (6' to 10') depth. Their appearance was similar to that of a hand-dug water well. The pit can be lined with bricks or concrete, covered with a slab and needing to be emptied frequently when it is used like an underground holding tank. The Incorporated Village of Westbury is a village in the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. It is located about east of Manhattan. The population was 15,404 at the 2020 census. History The first settlers arrived in 1658 in the region known as the Hempstead Plains. Many of the early settlers were Quakers.
