Narva Town Hall
Narva Town Hall ( et, Narva raekoda) is a historic municipal building in the city of Narva, Estonia. The building is located on Town Hall Square (''Raekoja plats'') next to the Narva College of the University of Tartu. History The town hall was one of the few elements of the city's baroque-era architecture to be rebuilt following the Second World War. It is now surrounded largely by Soviet-era Stalinist designs and Khrushchyovka. In 2021 a €7 million renovation project at the Narva Town Hall started. Narva, russian: Нарва is a municipality and city in Estonia. It is located in Ida-Viru County, Ida-Viru county, at the Extreme points of Estonia, eastern extreme point of Estonia, on the west bank of the Narva (river), Narva river which forms the Estonia–Russia border, Estonia–Russia international border. Khrushchyovka
''Khrushchyovka'' ( rus, Хрущёвка, Khrushchyovka, p=xrʊˈɕːɵfkə) or (a derogatory nickname) ''Khrushchoba'' ( rus, Хрущоба, Hrushchoba, t=Khru-slum) is an unofficial name for a type of low-cost, concrete- paneled or brick three- to five-storied apartment building which was developed in the Soviet Union during the early 1960s, during the time its namesake Nikita Khrushchev directed the Soviet government. They are sometimes compared to the Japanese ''danchi'', similar (often government-sponsored) housing projects from the same period, which by some accounts were directly inspired by them. Tartu Town Hall ( et, Tartu raekoda) is the seat of the city government of Tartu, Estonia. It is located on Town hall square, in the city centre. History and architecture The history of the town hall pre-dates the current town hall, as the present building is the third consecutive town hall built on the same location. It was erected, following the Great fire of Tartu, between 1782 and 1789 to designs by the German architect Johann Heinrich Bartholomäus Walter. From the outset, the building was designed to house a number of tenants in addition to the city government; a prison and a storage for weighs and measures were included already in the original drawings. The town hall has always suffered from a lack of space, and to this day a pharmacy is located in parts of the premises. The architect and mason, J. H. B.
