Nantucket Public Schools (NPS) is a school district on the island Nantucket, Massachusetts, United States. Fundamentals The Nantucket Public Schools district was founded to educate and serve the small island, and four public schools are currently a part of it, including the Nantucket Elementary School, Cyrus Peirce Middle School, Nantucket High School, and Nantucket Community School. Nantucket Historic District
The Nantucket Historic District is a National Historic Landmark District that encompasses the entire island of Nantucket, Massachusetts. The original December 13, 1966 listing on the National Register of Historic Places included only the historic downtown core and the village of Siasconset, but was expanded in 1975 to include the entire island, as well as the islands of Tuckernuck and Muskeget. At over 30,000 acres, it is the largest conventional historic National Historic Landmark District by area in the contiguous United States. Much of the district was originally designated as a local historic district in 1955, making it one of the earliest historic districts in the United States, along with the Charleston Historic District in Charleston, South Carolina, and the Vieux Carre Historic District in New Orleans. The Maria Mitchell Association is a private non-profit organization on the island of Nantucket off the coast of Massachusetts. Maria Mitchell Observatory
The Maria Mitchell Observatory in Nantucket, Massachusetts, USA, was founded in 1908 and named in honor of Maria Mitchell, the first American woman astronomer. It is a major component of the Maria Mitchell Association. The Observatory actually consists of two observatories - the main Maria Mitchell Observatory near downtown Nantucket and the Loines Observatory about a kilometer west of town. It is also the repository for a valuable collection of over 8000 wide-field (13° x 16°) glass photographic plates, recording observations of large swaths of sky from 1913 to 1995. The observatory has extensive public education and research programs.
