Nancy Mowll Mathews
Nancy Mowll Mathews (born 1947 in Baltimore) is a History of the Czechs in Baltimore, Czech-American Art history, art historian, curator and author. She was the Eugénie Prendergast Senior Curator of 19th and 20th Century Art at the Williams College Museum of Art from 1988 to 2010. She is currently an independent scholar, curator, professor and host of the television show ''Art World with Nancy Mathews''. She graduated from Goucher College and went on to complete an Master of Arts, MA in art history at Case Western Reserve University and a Doctor of Philosophy, PhD at the New York University Institute of Fine Arts. Before joining the Williams College faculty in 1988, she was a professor at Randolph College, Randolph-Macon Woman's College from 1977 to 1987. Baltimore

Charles Prendergast
Charles Prendergast (1863–1948) was a Canadian-American Post-Impressionist artist as well as a designer and maker of picture frames. He was the younger brother of the artist, Maurice Prendergast. Life He was born on 27 May 1863 in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. In 1868 the family moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where he lived until 1914 when he and his brother moved to New York City. In 1890 he traveled to Paris with Maurice, taking art classes with his brother who was studying at the Académie Colarossi and the Académie Julian. On his return to Boston, Charles became a custom woodworker, eventually focusing on creating unique picture frames influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. Women Art Historians
Women were professionally active in the academic discipline of art history in the nineteenth century and participated in the important shift early in the century that began involving an "emphatically corporeal visual subject", with Vernon Lee as a notable example. It is argued that in the twentieth century women art historians (and curators), by choosing to study women artists, "dramatically" "increased their visibility". It has been written that women artists pre-1974 were historically one of two groups; women art historians and authors who self-consciously address high school audiences through the publication of textbooks.
