Nalin Mazumdar
Sri Nalin Mazumdar can safely be called a guru or ustaad of the Hawaiian Guitar, also known as the Slide Guitar. Born and brought up in the holy city of Allahabad, Nalinji made untiring efforts towards the teaching and recognition of the Slide Guitar during 1940. He has studied with Acharya Allauddin Khan and also from Late Dr. Ali Akbar Khan during 1930s It was through his efforts that the Indian slide guitar or Classical Guitar was finally introduced in the syllabus of the Prayag Sangeet Samiti as an instrument. Nalinji never sought glory or limelight and continued to teach students in his humble home at Tagoretown in Allahabad till his last breath. As far as the Adaptation of Hawaiian Guitar into Hindustani Classical Music is concerned, the credit goes to him. Lap Steel Guitar
The lap steel guitar, also known as a Hawaiian guitar, is a type of steel guitar without pedals that is typically played with the instrument in a horizontal position across the performer's lap. Unlike the usual manner of playing a traditional acoustic guitar, in which the performer's fingertips press the strings against frets, the pitch of a steel guitar is changed by pressing a polished steel bar against plucked strings (from which the name "steel guitar" derives). Though the instrument does not have frets, it displays markers that resemble them. Lap steels may differ markedly from one another in external appearance, depending on whether they are acoustic or electric, but in either case, do not have pedals, distinguishing them from pedal steel guitar. Slide guitar is a technique for playing the guitar that is often used in blues music. Prayag Sangeet Samiti is an institute imparting education in Hindustani Classical music, in Allahabad, India. It awards diplomas and certificates in vocal music, instrumental music as well as classical dance. It was established in 1926. This institution is registered under the Indian Societies Act (Act No.XXI of 1860). The major aim of this organization is to propagate various vocal and instrumental music streams that are widely recognized by state governments, universities and educational bodies. Allauddin Khan
Allauddin Khan, also known as Baba Allauddin Khan ( – 6 September 1972) was an Indian sarod player and multi-instrumentalist, composer and one of the most notable music teachers of the 20th century in Indian classical music. For a generation many of his students, across different instruments like sitar and violin, dominated Hindustani classical and became some of the most famous exponents of the form ever, including Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan. Early life Khan was born in Shibpur village in Brahmanbaria (in present-day Bangladesh). His father, Sabdar Hossain Khan, was a musician. Maihar Gharana
The Maihar Gharana or Maihar-Senia Gharana is a gharana or school of Hindustani classical music, a style of Indian classical music originating in the northern parts of the Indian subcontinent. The school was formed by Allaudin Khan in the princely state of Maihar, now in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, and hence the name. Allauddin Khan learnt music from Vina player Wazir Khan, an exponent of the Senia gharana. The Maihar gharana is therefore sometimes referred to as the ''Maihar-Senia gharana''.
