Nagai Muralidharan
Nagai Muralidharan (born 4 December 1958 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu) is a Carnatic music, Carnatic violinist from India. He was awarded Kalaimamani#2003, Kalaimamani by the State Government of Tamil Nadu in 2003. Musical career Muralidharan initially learned from his mother, Smt. R. Komalavalli. Further training in violin was continued under Sri R.S. Gopalakrishnan, a well-known violinist from Chennai. His maiden performance was at the age of 10 and his career as a violinist has spanned for over 50 years. Today, as a violinist, he is noted for his clarity, rich tonal quality and crispness, and has developed a distinct scholarly style of his own. He is also a regular feature in the Radio Sangeetha Sammelan concerts on Doordharshan, and as an accompanist in several compact disks and cassettes. Carnatic Music
Carnatic music, known as or in the Dravidian languages, South Indian languages, is a system of music commonly associated with South India, including the modern Indian states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and Sri Lanka. It is one of two main subgenres of Indian classical music that evolved from ancient Hindu Texts and traditions, particularly the Samaveda. The Kalaimamani is the highest civilian award in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. These awards are given by the ''Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram'' (literature, music and theatre), a unit of the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Tamil Nadu, to recognise artists in the state for their achievements. Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (IPA: Saṅgīta Nāṭaka Akādamī Puraskāra), also known as the Akademi Puraskar, is an award given by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama. It is the highest Indian recognition given to people in the field of performing arts. The award earlier in 2003, consisted of Rs. 50,000, a citation, an '' angavastram'' (a shawl), and a ''tamrapatra'' (a brass plaque). Since 2009 cash prize has been increased to ₹1,00,000.
